HAWKEYE SPORTS PROPERTIES AND MEDIACOM EXPAND MARKETING AGREEMENT

IOWA CITY, Iowa - Hawkeye Sports Properties, the official multi-media marketing partner of the UI Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, and a property of Learfield Sports, and Mediacom, the state of Iowa's premiere telecommunications provider, have agreed to an expansion of their current marketing partnership that includes sponsorship of the competition surfaces inside the Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Effective with the UI men's basketball team's game Wednesday (Feb. 2) against Michigan State, the playing floor inside the UI's award-winning athletics facility will be referred to as "Mediacom Court" for all men's basketball, women's basketball and volleyball events, and "Mediacom Mat" for all wrestling events. The new agreement also provides Mediacom with the sponsorship rights to the outdoor club level of the Paul W. Brechler Press Box at Kinnick Stadium, e.g. the "Mediacom Outdoor Club."

The agreement also calls for Mediacom and Hawkeye Sports Properties to continue on-going discussions with the UI Athletics Department staff that explore opportunities for Mediacom products and services to enhance the game-day experience for fans of the Hawkeyes while attending events at Kinnick Stadium and Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

"Partnerships that truly create a win-win for everyone are hard to find, but we've had one for years through our partnership with Mediacom," said Gary Barta, the UI's director of athletics.

"I can tell you the renovation of Carver-Hawkeye Arena would not have been possible without incredible gifts and support from many individual donors and this wonderful commitment by Mediacom through our multi-media partner, Hawkeye Sports Properties," Barta added.

"Mediacom is proud to play an active role in support of the academic and intercollegiate athletics missions at the University of Iowa. Every Mediacom employee is dedicated to delivering the most advanced communications technologies and service to the communities in which they live and work," said Ed Pardini, Mediacom's senior vice president.

Mediacom's history of support for the UI includes financial and/or in-kind gifts to Hancher Auditorium, the UI's Museum of Art, the UI's International Writing Program, and the UI Dance Marathon, for example, in addition to its support of the intercollegiate athletics program.

"The University's athletics facilities are among the most well-known in the country, and we're pleased that Mediacom can play a role in enhancing these assets through our expanded partnership with Hawkeye Sports Properties. The partnership provides visibility opportunities for Mediacom, but the real beneficiaries are current and future student-athletes, and the tens of thousands of fans who regularly attend events in Kinnick Stadium and Carver-Hawkeye Arena," added Pardini.

Barf.

Seriously, if you're going to name the court, make a memorial to Chris Street, or something of that nature.

lol. Sell outs. Just another example of how sports is just about the money. Just imagine...one time having your name on the building meant something. Now it just means you had a lot of money to give away.

If JP wants that South endzone bowled in, it won't be long before ISU is playing on "ABC Company" Field at Jack Trice Stadium.

Not that it hasn't started, but schools and professional organizations are going to start selling naming rights to everything possible even more as we move forward in the 21st century.

BTW, this is lame for Iowa.

Mediacom Court is as stupid as Mall of America Field for the name of a playing surface.

I think Mediacom is worse as it is a ****** cable company whereas the MOA is kind of a landmark/ famouse attraction. Both are still lame.

That being said, if we could get JT bowled in by selling our field naming rights(not stadium), I would be all over it. That also being said there would be no way it would be worth enough money.

For what it's worth, I would hate playing on Pioneer Playing Surfaces. Just painful.

PLaying on a court with a company logo that has integrity and has a direct effect on Iowa's economy VS. a shady cable company, with terrible customer service and horrible employee relations.
