So with the departure of Cmac and one other guard we will be left with one scholly. Do we give it to AT or will we go and try and sign one more player? I think this year we will need some more depth but then again in the coming classes we are bring in quite a few guards. Does bringing in another JUCO guard make sense? Whats everyones thoughts on this?

We had 13 scholarship players not counting Thompson. Then we had 13 counting thompson when Cmac decided to leave. With on more guard leaving we would have 12 scholarship players, which would mean we have one available scholarship. The question is do we bank it, or do we go get one more player?

I'd bank it, there isn't much quality left out there for 2007. That's not to say there isn't ANY quality...if we could get our hands on a Jai Lucas or whoever, then definitely use it.

I was thinking the same thing. Bank the scholly unless theres someone definitely worth it. It makes no sense to use it just because you have it, and be stuck with an average or below average player for 4 more years.

I could be convinced with using it on Lucas or maybe Jordan (just from a potential standpoint and it would be replacing 1 3star gaurd with another.)

Looking at what the team brings next year, they look solid at most positions. We wont win every game, but we should be able to compete.....its just really hard to guess who will work and who wont. Another player on the bench is great - but I'm not convinced that we are in dire need for another player at any position.

I wonder if the coaches have made any contacts with additional players since all this started to happen?

What about this guy? http://iowastate.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=24739
Though not a guard, he could be the bruiser we need down low. Looks like he might have had some academic problems from the titles of past rivals articles. Anyone know anything else about him?

If he's had troubles with academics in the past, what makes you think he'll fare any better than Dodie has? (Assuming he's leaving, and it's because of academics)

I like how his profile says 270 pounds but the little blurb below the profile says 303. Maybe 270 before dinner?
It is interesting that he is also from Chipola JC...
I just checked the Men's D1 NJCAA Tournament results. Chipola lost to Midlands College in the championship game.
Thomas' stats:
22 points (10/13 fg, 2/3 ft)
6 rebounds
1 asst
4 to

I didn't say anywhere in my post that he would fare any better then dodie... I was just curious of this prospect and asked a simple question. I have no idea if he would qualify and i doubt you do either.

I would really look hard for a JUCO guard. I really feel we need someone to make an immediate impact becaause you can't count on true Freshmen. Im not alway crazy about going the juco route but if we can find the right fit it would be a good idea. You never know when you are going to find a steal like Tinsley.

I haven't heard anything about Dodie leaving due to academic trouble, but rather going somewhere that the academics better suit him.

::yawn:: I wasn't attacking you, just asking you a question. You stated that he may have had academic troubles in the past. If that's the case, why would we offer someone a schollie that may not be able to keep up with the rigors of the student part of the student-athelete?

Yea, I know that's how it was stated, but that's how I always think of it when people say that. For all I know, he could be leaving because he wants to go to a school that has a better journalism program. ::shrugs:: Just the way that I see these things.

Well, we know of one player leaving, so if AT gets that scholly we're at our max. Rumors are one more guard will be leaving - so if that's the case, we'd have one.

Who knows what will happen with Mike or if other players leave.

Personally, I'd like to see us get a player for this coming season to fill the expected scholly - as long as we can find someone worthy of it. Just don't give a scholly to give it - and I know our staff won't. We're still in the mode of needing bodies to put on the floor though, so I'd hope we can fill it rather than bank it.

I think it will depend on how much faith G-Mac has in Garrett and Brister to be able to come in and run the offense, and whether he thinks Steiger has sufficient ball handling skills to play a lot at the two. If the worst possible scenario occurs and we lose both Dunson and Taylor then I think we just about have to pick up one more gaurd.

I believe this kid has verballed to Indiana. He apparently wants to play with his buddy and Chipola teammate JaMarcus Ellis. The question seems to be whether IU can free up a scholarship for him.
