I have a question that I'm struggling to find the answer for on the internets and am hoping there is someone that can point me in the right direction.

I've been covered through COBRA since I quit my job about a year ago. I recently accepted a full-time position again with benefits. My start date is Feb. 3.

Everything has been taken care of, I've made my new elections, have medical coverage through my employer. I'm technically covered since Feb 3.

Earlier this week I called to cancel my COBRA coverage. There wasn't any place for me to do it through the website. They told me to send an email to a certain address stating some personal information, what coverage I want cancelled (everything, in my case) and the effective date. (an email to cancel coverage? Amateur hour....)

Here is what has me flustered - I can only drop coverage on the last day of the month. I've been covered for all but the first two days of February, but I have to pay for the full month through COBRA. I also have to pay for 27 days of February through my new employer.

I'm irked that I have to pay for double coverage. Doing so is going to cost me an extra $300. Can I demand that my previous coverage pay me back to Feb. 3? Or at least refund me for the days between my email cancellation and the end of the month? Do I have any recourse?

KCCI and others have story on this too if you don't want to read the Rag's version. I was just there last week for a dinner event at the Iowa Beef Expo so this is a bit surprising as this place has been a staple on the fairgrounds for a long time. Apparently part of this is from concession sales at the Clay County Fair too which if anyone has been to that knows it is basically like a smaller version of the state fair as it is not your average size Iowa county fair.

Apparently all the buildings on the state fairgrounds are owned by the state fair then leased to concession owners so my guess is Diamond Jack's won't be closed permanently but just reassigned to new operators. That place is right next to the Iowa Craft Beer Tent that usually has a lot of live music during the state fair so it's probably a very lucrative place that there will be no shortage of people wanting to operate it.

I love state wrestling. It is a week long holiday for me!

Local Heavyweight finished 3rd at Districts, but was called to wrestle at state today. No mention of why both 1st and 2nd were not there. I know this is very rare. Good kid who came back from knee surgery last year.

I love watching this years team play with the heart they play with but this team just does not have the point guard that we are used to - starting with stacy then both lindsays, even moody then what middleton gave them last year . next years freshman seems to be loaded with players that can play the point, will lexi start at the point right away and move maggie to off guard? or will the girl from ks ? it seems like bill finally got his dream class that he can use guards the way he wants to .

anyone else have comments. but i still have a funny feeling that this team is still going to the dance.

Is there a team hotel and/or a place where a lot of our fans are staying? I'm thinking a road trip might be in order this year.

Coach Campbell will be the keynote speaker at the Iowa Catholic Men's Conference. Conference starts at 9:00 and will be done by noon. Mass (optional) is at 7:30. Tickets are $20. Pants: When I was in elementary school, I tried to create a religion if worship of me and just had the name be mostly my last name with -ite after it. It didn’t take off like I hoped it would. So probably The Brethren, because they’re just a bunch of lazy trash monsters, like me.
Doc: Children of God. They’ve been through a rebrand or two and are now known as “The Family”. They gave us Joaquin Phoenix and Christopher Owens, the frontman of the band “Girls”. They also believe that, if you happen to be one of those people that pleasures themselves, that you should imagine a deity there with you, helping you, as they say, “make the axhead float”. If you are a man you are supposed to pretend you are a woman because Jesus remains a man all of the time. Which is kind of cool. I think it’s important that we listen to other perspectives and viewpoints such as these.
GTO: Heaven’s Gate - for real. If you’re going the crazy cult route, go all the way committing mass suicide thinking that a spaceship is coming on the tail of a comet to pick up your spirit. Their logo game was on point as well:

GTO: This sounds just like the Donner Party, except people are served with a side of tortillas and refried beans. I say just 3 come back: you, the wife, and favorite kid.
Doc: My heart says 5, but my head says 3.
Pants: There’s 5, right? So 4 come back. Your son will disappear after trying to box a cartel with Hulk boxing gloves. @boxster is a pro with Mexico though. He could probably do an excursion to find your son.

@Angie with the follow up: Relevant question: are you taking your own carbon monoxide tester?
Doc: Is this important when going to Mexico?
Pants: Is this like a breathalyzer?
GTO: No, not a breathalyzer. The carbon monoxide tester is the one that is used to determine who “dealt it”. A bit more scientific than just assigning blame to whoever smelled it.
Doc: If you light a fart on fire and it burns blue, it is clean. Orange means it has CO in it.
GTO: Are clean farts kind of like “clean coal”?
Pants: Kind of, but only because, like with dirty coal, you can clean dirty farts with soap and water.

@BCClone asks: Can you have too much of a good thing?
Pants: Only if you’re me, and feel like you have to be punished for when things go well.
Doc: Yes, you sure can. Everything in moderation is my rule. A man has to have a code.
