CFTV: Iowa State previews Big 12 Tournament

Tamin Lipsey, Joshua Jefferson, Curtis Jones, and Head Coach T.J. Oztelberger spoke to the media in Kansas City ahead of the 2025 Phillips 66 Men’s Basketball Big 12 Championship.

Death

This is going to sound morbid to some , but maybe I’m not the only crazy person here.

How often do you people think about death/dying? Daily, weekly, occasionally?

It doesn’t even have to be offing yourself, just death in general.

I’ve been to a lot of therapy and have good and bad days, but I don’t think I’ve gone a day since I was in junior high that I haven’t thought about dying. It might be how am I going to die, what if I did this , why can’t some tragedy or health issue just happen to me instead of the good people out there?

For any others that may have maybe dealt with this exhausting issues, what did you do to ease the mind or do you just keep going on with it?

I’m exhausted and I’m tired and nothing I’ve tried over the last 25 years has worked, whether it be therapy, medications, drugs, sobriety etc.

Sorry to bring this board down.

Real Estate Market

Any thoughts with the real estate market in 2025 and 2026?

I've read anything from it'll be pretty much like it has been the last year to be ready for values/prices to decrease, etc. Some of those that I talk to in the real estate world are very uncertain and skeptical. A few think we're looking at something similar to 2008.

WBB: General Portal Tracker 2025

Hey, it's portal season and the final phase of recruiting for 2025. For general tracking I thought we could have a dedicated thread. Maybe @mred can start an ISU portal recruits thread once our season ends but there's a lot going to be happening that isn't us recruiting so here's a spot for it.

Update: Any news on portal recruiting directly related to ISU will be in @mred 's 2025 recruiting thread.

Couple of sites will track it:

Post Big 12’s/Pre NCAA’s Thoughts

Thought I’d go weight by weight and give me thoughts on the season in general and specifically the Big 12’s/heading into NCAA’s.

125 - tough to see Kysen go out the way he did (he is done, correct?). Looked like the old Kysen with low activity and appeared to he a step slow, but probably expected with his time off. Not expecting an NCAA at-large bid for him. Bummer that we didn’t get to see his improved discipline on and off of the mat come to fruition.

133 - Evan was solid all year, but really had a pretty bad weekend. His Moore match was unlike anything we’ve ever seen since he got in the lineup. Hoping 10 more days can get him feeling a bit better with whatever he had going on (hammy?). Main issue for him is going from a 3 or 4 seed, likely all the way down into the teens. Still expecting him to be right there for an AA spot.

141 - What a solid surprise JFrost has been this year. Tournament went right about as expected (thought he’d be closer to Happel but was beaten soundly). Should be right around a 10-12 seed and bloodround/low AA is very much on the table.

149 - Hair pulling matches to watch, but he got it done. Only has 1 loss at 149 (which he avenged). He still can flirt with either going 0-2 at NCAAs, or could AA. Hope he lays it all out there. I also think he will be seeded 8-12 range.

157 - Man, what to say here. Similar to Paniro, he will either go 1-2, or could finish as an AA. Consistency hasn’t been there and makes small mistakes that really cost him (Siebrecht match early full send and the late riding error against Downey). He’s probably going to be around a 15 seed.

165 - Good for Riggins continuing to get better and stealing an NCAA bid. He has looked better each time out since dropping to 165, wish he would have been there from the start. Depending on his record at 165(?), he likely has a pig-tail match to get to face Mesenbrink?

174 - Ran into a buzzsaw in the quarters (while hurting bad enough that he almost didn’t wrestle?) but gained some fans with his warrior-run on the backside. Wish he would have started the year at 174 and I am sure he won’t be 100% by NCAA’s, but he will be dangerous. Hope he can get back to the BR for a chance at AA, but I am sure he will be seeded in the 20-25 range.

184 - Bockman has been one of our most consistent guys this year. Isn’t likely to knock off one of the top 5 or 6 guys, but also isn’t that likely to lose to someone he’s ranked higher than. With that said, his injury didn’t look/doesn’t sound good. Hope it’s not serious but no clue what his NCAA outlook would be. Should be seeded around 14-18.

197 - Schon is another guy that very clearly improved throughout the year. Wouldn’t have guessed back in December that he would place at Big 12’s. Good effort out of him and I’ll be curious to see how he improves into the 25-26 season.

285 - Likely our most improved guy from November to now. SHOULD get an at-large seeded somewhere from 20-25. Tough loss to Mitchell (don’t think he would lose to him again). Excited to see him after a redshirt year as I think we will have a real hammer at heavy for the next 3-4 years.

  • Poll
Coaching Strategy to Maximize NCAA Tourney Performance.

What strategy would you deploy?

  • Rest multiple players for the entire Big 12 tourney.

    Votes: 4 2.3%
  • Rest players unless we reach the final.

    Votes: 4 2.3%
  • Only rest players for the first game.

    Votes: 3 1.7%
  • Only rest Gilbert.

    Votes: 30 16.9%
  • Don't sit anyone but extend the bench in the first game or two.

    Votes: 90 50.8%
  • These guys will be able to recover by the opening game of the NCAA, tourney. Don't rest anyone on

    Votes: 46 26.0%

Three factors are entering into my decision:

Do our guys need a rest before the NCAA push?

How much does our Big 12 performance impact NCAA seeding?

How much as a fan do I want the revenge tour and Big 12 Tourney Title?

2025-2025 Transfer Portal Needs, Wants, Updates

I’m over my head in who is out there and who we have a legit chance at but atleast it’s a spot to catalog the upcoming rat race…

Goes without saying we need the BAP (Best Available Player) if I can steal from NFL Draftniks at our upper weights 174-197…

Only 2 I will throw in with my limited knowledge…
197- Novak from Wyo- only reason would bc he’s from Minnesota and maybe wants to get closer to home? Did we recruit out of HS?
197-Little from Little Rock…maybe he wants to join a top 5 national club
