Friday OT - Granola

I read that several farmers’ markets are opening tomorrow, and it made me think about some of the hippie things I personally have done over the years.

What is the thing you do/have done in the past that others may think is “hippie” activity? Why did you actually do it? Do you collect rainwater or compost? Do you grow your own produce?

I would get organic fruits and vegetables, clean/steam/puree/freeze them, and make all of our kids’ baby food. I just liked knowing what they were eating - but then I would turn around and let them eat Gerbers Puffs, so a healthy amount of the wind was taken out of those sails.

What are yours? I am tired today, I apologize if this is a crappy topic

Iowa State's history-making season begets a history-making NFL Draft

John Cusack screening High Fidelity in Waukee

I would love to know how he picked that movie for central Iowa, and why he's coming to Iowa at all, but it's pretty cool. I think Grosse Pointe Blank is my favorite John Cusack film, but High Fidelity is up there.

2028 Football Targets

Scholarships are going out to the rising sophomores. Might as well get this thread kicked off with a couple of local Iowa kids, right?

No idea if Carter is any relation to Dylan and Austin, who are from St. Charles, IL.

CBS Sports: Grading 2021 MBB coaching hires

I'm not a big fan of Norlander's writing style, but, whatever. His analysis for this one seems OK.

Otz received a high assessment.

I forget about timeline for coaches, so it's interesting in that respect.

Twister Sister Summary - What Does the Crystal Ball See for 25-26?

Using the old crystal ball (or maybe magic 8 ball) and taking a stab at what might be in store for next year. Feel free to add your ideas to the thread!

Williams & Blum feat. Rocco Becht: Spring ball recap and an early depth chart

Chris Williams and Brent Blum are joined by Rocco Becht to discuss his offseason, spring ball, and his upcoming football camp before getting into the weeds on a potential depth chart for the Cyclones. Presented by Mechdyne and A+ Lawn & Landscape.

On That Note: I Fought the Lawn

Mowing season has begun in many sections of the U.S. (and we're approaching “No Mow May,” if you practice that).

For this week’s segment, we seek songs with title, lyrics or storylines pertaining to mow, grass, lawn, yard, weed and other general springtime outdoor upkeep.

NOT accepted: Reference to gardening, planting or flowers, we used aspects of those in previous OTNs. If those happen to be within a song that contains material for the main topic, that’s fine, of course.

On That Note is presented on Cyclone Fanatic by @MeanDean, @CycloneRulzzz and cyclones500. We’re always open to fresh ideas and suggestions. Send a PM.

Last week’s OTN: First of May

2025-2026 MBB computer projections thread

Starting early this year but this team...

Added Heise back. Removed the oddity of Dwayne Pierce remaining a Cyclone.

The results?

The updated roster would be #15 after Illinois and before Arizona.

That projection is in the range of fighting for a top-four seed in the Big 12 tournament.

There is a strong possibility Houston and BYU maul the conference like... well, two cougars.

ISU plans to combine Alumni Association and ISU Foundation

"This is a significant undertaking," Wintersteen said, "but our combined efforts will build upon both organizations' collective strengths and proud histories. It truly is exciting to consider the new opportunities that will emerge and to imagine how we benefit from a unified approach to engaging our tremendously loyal, tremendously supportive students, alumni, donors and friends." - ISU

Not sure how this will all flush out, whether it's a full merger under a new title or a soft combo of teams, the details at this time are pretty vague. The groups are pretty cross pollinated as it is so I don't think it's anything like a hostile corporate merger. Will be interesting to see how this new group gets along with the athletic department. The athletic department has always seemed to me to be less than friendly with either group as they seem to think they are "competitors" vying for dollars that should be donated to the department, and now NIL.

Since the COVID year, and suspended ISUAA event hosting in that period, the alumni association has seemed to lose a lot of momentum and the same of the ISU Foundation as well, at least locally here. ISU Foundation used to come up to Mpls (15,000 alumni here in the greater metro) annually each spring/summer and host a big invite president's reception. They have not done that in a number of years. Granted those relied a lot on a well to do alumni to sponsor it so maybe that country club set isn't stepping up like they used to. The last one they hosted was a poorly attended one hosted in a downtown Mpls hotel, not a great appeal locale compared to something like hosting at a country club or the Walker Art Center or something of that genre.

***WBB: 2029 Recruiting Thread***

Starting up 2029 -- Iowa just offered a 2030 recruit, so I better get 2029 up since 2030 may not be far behind. Not much here yet, but that'll probably change quickly over the next few months.

Let me know if there are any corrections needed.
