First Iowa State Football Season Ticket since 1994!

As I have mentioned before, I recently moved back to Iowa after living around the country for the last quarter century. I technically moved in 1995 after the UNLV game (Big game for Troy Davis!), but I just realized this will be my first full season of Cyclone Football since 1994. Yes, that dreadful 0-10-1 season! I went to every stinking home game too.

So, I am looking forward to my first year back as a season ticket holder watching Iowa State play Big Xii Football instead of Big 8 Football. It will be fun seeing the Texas teams as conference opponents and seeing old Big 8 rivals too. I've been to a few games since I left town, but it has been sporadic at best.

So, looking at this year's home schedule, here is the last time I have seen these 7 home opponents play in person:

UNI: 1994 @ Iowa State. The Panthers sang their fight song in the end-zone after the game, AGAIN!

Iowa: 2001 @ Iowa State. I was visiting my in-laws for Thanksgiving and was able to go to this 9/11 make-up game. Seneca being Seneca - along with a strong showing from the defense helped ISU to a hard fought 17-14 victory.

UL-M: Will be a first for me! FYI: The WarHawks will be the 110th FBS team for me to see play in person.

TCU: 2004 @ Cincinnati in the C-USA days!

Oklahoma State: 1997 @ Iowa State. The Cowboys put a damper on Jack Trice Stadium Dedication night. Plus, that was the night Princess Diana died.

Texas: 1995 Sugar Bowl vs. Virginia Tech! Got so drunk that night with a buddy of mine from California. We had a designated driver who laughed at us all night long. Had a blast though. lol. "Roll on you Hokies!"

Kansas: 1994 @ Iowa State. Another miserable loss in a miserable season. Kansas must be destroyed!

As for Iowa State, I last saw the boys in the Liberty Bowl win over Memphis.

Looking forward to a great season of football watching some old foes I have not seen play in a while.

Let's Go State!

P.S. The UNI Game will be my first game in the stadium since the expansion. My last home game was in 2012 vs. West Virginia (another Thanksgiving Weekend game).

Drop-In workouts in Ames and Coralville

We're heading back to Iowa to visit family in a couple weeks and I'd like to avoid missing two weeks of workouts since I've JUST gotten back to it after nearly 6 months off. I plan to hit the hotel gyms on the drive out and back, even though they're usually a joke. But we'll be staying with family so no weights available. Looking for a place I can drop in and do some barbell work. Any recommendations?

Black Mirror

Anyone seen the show? I just binged all 6 episodes last night.

The way it was pitched to me was that it is like Twilight Zone but geared more towards human interactions when technology has gone too far. When technology is synonymous with our every day lives (even more than today).

Each episode is self contained and unrelated to one another. Episode 1 of Season 1 - National Anthem, isn't as good as the others but it is a slow pitch to the rest of the series. If you can't handle that episode, then don't watch the rest. But some say to save that one towards the end. Episode 2 of Season 1 - 15 Million Merits, is what got me hooked.

They are all fantastic though and be prepared to feel kinda depressed when watching them.

Do You Remember...Old Severe Weather Announcement

My family and I are sitting around talking about severe weather we have been through as my kids get really nervous when they hear the NWS break in over the radio or the alert goes off on our phones.

This led to me remembering how freaked out I would get in the late 80s - early 90s when the local tv stations would break into live programming with the SCARIEST, MOST ANXIETY INDUCING music to alert viewers to severe weather.

Did anybody else have this experience? Does anybody have any clips or examples of these that I can show my kids?

Excuse me while I go take my next dose of anxiety meds in anticipation.

Tips for Gameday in Morgantown

I'm living out in Buffalo, NY now so the closest ISU normally comes to here is when they play in Morgantown. It's 4.5hrs away so I'm wanting to commit to go down there this year and was just looking for any advise from people who have been to a game in Morgantown before. Things like best place to stay, best places to eat/drink, tips on where to park/tailgating on gameday. Are there any ISU groups that do a big tailgate? Or if there is anyone else going to be in town it will just be my wife and me so we would love to meet new people who root for the right school!

Thanks Sean!

Ames U2 Concert 9/11/92 - Identify Girl Pulled From Audience

My buddy and I went to this concert.

This was back when you were not allowed to bring cameras in the venue.
My buddy was a master of the smuggled camera and clandestine photos.

Anyway, He got several pictures of the girl pulled up onto the runway with Bono.
At the time we couldn't do much about it but since then he's been wanting to make contact with her to provide the photos to her.

I volunteered to post one photo of her and Bono on CF figuring there was probably a semi-decent chance someone on here knows her and can work to connect the photographer and the subject.

Obviously it would have been a HUGE deal for her at the time and so her friends would have known about it. Hoping someone can make the connection.

PM me if you (are her or) know how to contact her.

Wanting to "Sublease" in tent row for the TCU Game Oct 5th

Total long shot, My buddy DA(dumba$$), did not get a tent reserved as they sold out much faster then previous years. DA is in charge of the Converse House reunion they have every 4 years. He has about 60 people who will be back for the game. They are open to renting outright or sharing a tent, if it someone has a smaller group and wants to offset the cost. They would also willing to go in on group tickets and lower the cost on them. Pm me and I'll get you in touch with him. If, no reply within a week, he will probably get one of the auxiliary tents. Thanks

Fox X-Men (Marvel) Movie/TV Universe

Since I've already started threads for 2 of the "Big 3" comic book movie/tv universes out there (DC Extended Universe/WB, Marvel Cinematic Universe/Marvel/Disney), I figured it was only fitting that I start a thread for the third one, which is the Fox X-Men (Marvel) Movie/TV Universe. Therefore, I'd encourage this to be the place to post any opinions/rankings/news/reviews... etc. of anything Fox X-Men Movie/tv Universe related.

Short History (skip if you don't care): Long story short, back when Marvel was bankrupt in the late 90s, in order to generate some cash, they sold off movie/tv rights to many of their beloved characters to different movie studios including Fox, Sony, Universal... etc, while keeping back some of the characters rights to themselves. With that said, since then, Fox owns and has kept all the rights to the X-Men characters, Wolverine, Deadpool, Fantastic Four... etc, and made a shared universe between many of them, particularly those revolving around the X-Men (excludes Fantastic 4). Marvel then later went on to use all their characters they still owned to create their own Cinematic Universe call the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Therefore, YES, there are technically TWO different Marvel movie/tv universes that are COMPLETELY separate. Marvel/Disney themselves own and control one of them completely, and really have very little to do with the other (Fox).

Now that you've got a quick history lesson, here is a quick list of all the current movies that are part of the universe and considered canon:

X-Men (2000)
X2: X-Men United (2003)
X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)
X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)
X-Men: First Class (2011)
The Wolverine (2013)
X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014)
Deadpool (2016)

Moving on, here are the big upcoming movies that are announced and set to come out within this universe:

X-Men: Apocolypse (May 27, 2016)
Gambit (2017)
Untitled Wolverine Film (TBA)
Untitled Deadpool Sequel (TBA)
Hellfire TV Series (TBA)

Lastly, to kick things off, we are only 3 months away right now from the release of the new X-Men: Apocalypse movie, so here is a link to that full-length trailer:

Thoughts? Opinions? Deadpool reviews? Lets get it rolling.

1920's mobster strategy game

Have my sights on this, and love everything about the idea. Paradox makes great strategy games, and building up your own Mafia gang sounds great!

https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/20...n-and-two-ton-clyde-malone-for-empire-of-sin/

"It’s the 1920s and Chigaco has crimes. Hearing that crimes can lead to meeting people named e.g. Two-Ton Clyde Malone, we decide that yes we shall do crimes.

Through illegal casinos, protection rackets, speakeasies, and such we’ll grow a gang, do crimes, expand our turf, throw down in turn-based combat I will describe in a glance as “looking a bit like XCOM”, and maybe even try what I suppose can be considered diplomacy. Along forming alliances, we’ll get to bribe cops and, the announcement says, “schmooze, coerce, seduce, threaten, or kill” folks in our way."
