North Shore - Duluth and Lake Superior

As long as others are posting about summer vacation plans, I thought I'd throw mine out there as well.

We have a large group of family members (14-15 people) staying in a large 8-bedroom house along the north shore of Lake Superior near Silver Bay for week in late June.

Any tips/tricks of things to see and do? Planning to do some hiking, fishing, relaxing, and general sightseeing. Youngest is 14, oldest in their 70's.

CBS ranks CFB coaches

CMC is rated the top coach in Big 12 and #10 in CFB.

Interesting note on Scott Frost, he has been a head coach for 7 seasons and only has one winning season (which happened to be 13-0).

RECRUITING: Iowa State earns Commitment from 3-Star Safety Bryson Williams

Iowa State lands Bryson Williams and now has commitments from 6 of the top 10 players in Nebraska for 2026.

In honor of Easter, what's your favorite frozen pizza?

I've always had a jones for Tombstone. It's definitely NOT the fresh ingredients and quality, but 40-ish years ago my Dad and I used to fish at Woman Lake and there was a tavern there somewhere and after a day of walleye fishing we'd go get a coke (me), a beer (him) and freshly made frozen tombstone pizzas at the bar...

Home Assistant Automaton

We're moving into a new house and I want to start using Home Assistant. Looking for what type of setup to run.

I have a Windows 11 NUC just laying around that I could use.

I have a bunch of smart lights. Some Hue.
The new house has Ecobee thermostat
I have a couple of Google nest Cameras
Today I use Google Assistant to control things and run routines.

I'm going to be buying probably 8 smart blinds from SmartWings. They are giving me the option of ZigBee or ZWave Plus.

Would this be a good use case for Home Assistant?
Should I use my NUC for this purpose? Will i have to constantly be updating it or is this set it and forget it?
Should I use Zigbee or ZWave?
Anything else I'm missing?

Special Teams Coach / Coordinator?

posted on twitter, but maybe worth a thread. we don't have a named ST teams coach again this season correct? "team effort" or whatever?

I know the guy they hired as a ST consultant in 2023 apparently wasn't thought much of, but dang, clearly the best ST season in a long time. Kinda have to expect we stay a middling to bad ST unit this season based on past performance ...

On That Note: It’s the Weekend

For this segment, we focus on songs with titles or lyrics with the word "weekend."

Also accepted: Friday, Saturday and Sunday, but those MUST be in the title.

(Naturally, if those days of the week are within a song with “Weekend” in title, that's cool.)
“On That Note” is presented each week on Cyclone Fanatic by @MeanDean, @CycloneRulzzz and cyclones500.

Here's one to get started.

105 Roster Limit—Grandfathering

I am seeing that last week the Judge in the case gave the NCAA a two week deadline to grandfather on returning players against the limit.

This only makes sense, since the ruling came down after kids were already on teams. And it would help ISU, in that the ‘24 freshman were easily the most talented group of walkons yet.

The good news being, I don’t think even the NCAA can find a way to mess this one up. Kids on the ‘24 roster simply have four more years to complete their eligibility, as an exception to the 105. Duh.

And each year, the graduates trim that down.
