WBB: Coach Schaben moving on

Boy, Bill really didn't read the room and just retire...
Not saying it's the right thing for the future of ISU WBB but my guess is he is probably more motivated/dug-in to Coach now than he has been in several years. I'm sure he's heard all the criticism and I'm guessing he would love nothing more than to shut those critics up.

Just so ******* weird everyone knew this was coming and we’re waiting until after the portal to make coaching changes.

I don’t even know how you recruit with that - do you tell the players that other people will be coaching? It’s that or you are blatantly lying to your recruits that you’ll be around and then shitting on them 2 weeks later

Plus ISU wasn't going to by him out, so he would also be giving up ~$2 Million to retire 1 year early.

Im pretty sure it's been known Schaben and Steyer are leaving for weeks and had a pretty good idea who the replacements would be. Either way transfers aren't coming for assistants. They are coming for money and opportunity to play.

Plus if they have done any research of the team they should know this will be Bill's last year on contract.

Noted by mred that Tjaša Turnšek was a prospect recruited by McCombs prior to Iowa State and continued that relationship. At least from outward appearances, this is one assistant dependent commit and there are more in McCombs's sphere.

I gotta be getting old....this saddens me. Stuff just keeps on changing. I don't really know what Coach Schaben brought to the table. Probably underappreciated by me. I'm glad she took care of what she needed to do for her life and wish her the best. She can call herself a Cyclone anytime in my book.

Probable dumb question - BJ Schaben and coach Schaben related somehow??

rare enough last name to have two in ISU sports world...

She's married to politician Scott Schaben.

When Paul Schaben of Carroll, IA passed away in March, casket bearers included a "Scott Schaben" and a "B.J. Schaben", so if those are the Scott and B.J. we are talking about then it appears they are at least cousins of some sort.

My assumption, this didn't get formally announced until today because Schaben was waiting on Texas State to announce/ formalize her hiring.

Schaben potentially leaving was posted on CF a few weeks ago after Texas State hired Kielsmeier. So I doubt CBF was hiding her status from recruits.

Also, it's pretty commonplace for assistant coaches to move on and it's publicly announced just after signing date. Happens all the time in football.
