Making lunch for my kids just now, and it occurred to me that I'm very particular about the order in which I make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

I always spread the jelly first, and then wipe the knife off on the PB side of the bread, in order to keep the knife clean, and not get jelly in the peanut butter jar. If I did the peanut butter first, I don't think the knife would wipe off as easily and I definitely don't want PB in the J jar. But, if I'm honest, all of that reasoning is theoretical, because I've never deviated from the way I make them, and it never occurred to me before today the amount of logic and thought I use when making this sandwich.

Is my logic flawed? Can an equally good case be made for making it another way? I'm willing to have my mind changed.

We are seeing MLB managers use position players to pitch in the late innings of blowouts. Obviously by pitching a position player the Manager is saying the game is over. Why not just end the game?

The new extra inning rule has reduced the number of games that extend 13+ innings. But has this been a good change?

If you are a fan of music charts (specifically, Billboard, but any of them, honestly), you might know the name Joel Whitburn. He founded his company, Record Research, in 1970 to publish the music chart histories from Billboard magazine. He covered all major genres and eventually spread out to cover not just Billboard, but Cashbox, Radio & Records, Record World, etc. I have about twenty of his books from the past thirty years or so since I bought my first one. Whitburn passed away early this morning after an illness. Hopefully Record Research will continue to publish (I'm still waiting on them to put out a Cashbox Country Singles book) even after he's gone.
