Annual Victory Day celebration at Jack Trice tonight

I have a special needs grandson who's in 7th grade and who was fortunate enough to be selected to participate in Matt Campbell's annual Victory Day celebration. What an incredible evening.

When we arrived at the stadium, my grandson was given a special Cyclone jersey (black of course) and matched with one of the Cyclone players who hung with him the entire evening. He showed him the Cyclone's amazing new locker room and the game room where the players like to hang out.

Then he escorted my grandson through the tunnel and ran out on the field with him as his name was announced over the stadium PA. Shortly afterwards, Campbell put his arm around my grandson, escorted him into the huddle and called the play. Then Dekker handed my grandson the ball and he ran around the right end for touchdown while his new Cyclone teammates, the stadium announcer, the band and cheerleaders all celebrated.

What an amazing moment. What an amazing group of coaches and players. What an amazing culture.

Beer Bargain (sort of)

River Hops in Ft Dodge is hosting a scholarship fundraiser from 5-10 tomorrow night Saturday 8/27 $10 gets you a drink and a meal. The band is Brutal Republic with guest band Cory Waller and the Wild things.

They brewed up a black lager for this. It was on tap tonight, It was good. So if you folks are in the Ft. Dodge area stop in get supper for $10 and support a scholarship fund. I have no idea what the meal is forgot to ask tonight.

Friday OT #2 - That’s Where I Want To Be

Thanks so much to @WooBadger18 for today’s idea!

What are some “hills” about famous movies that you’re willing to die on. It could be about plot points, movies being overrated or underrated, etc.

For example - I recently rewatched a version of “Romeo and Juliet.” Other than his “I’ll be a grave man” pun, that whole play would have been made more interesting if it had been about Mercutio.

Let's play the expansion game...

How many should be added and what teams do you pick.

I would think a 20 team conference would be the target at this point. We could have 4 divisions of 5 teams. Each year there are partner divisions. For football each team plays a full round robin with their partner division. Champion of each partner division plays for the conference championship. In basketball it's a full double round robin. Then seed two sides of a tournament bracket with partner divisions based on standings inside those divisions.

I'm going for the so called 4 corner schools (Utah, Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado.) Then we need to add 4 more preferably out east. How about Louisville, Pitt, and let's go crazy and say Clemson and Notre Dame.

I hear different perspectives so thought this would be a great discussion. Given the success of the Campbell era, how do you feel recruiting is going compared to what the wins and exposure should warrant?

Impressed - punching above our belts

Satisfied - about what one would expect for the wins and exposure

Disappointed - not taking advantage or benefiting enough

Google One - VPN?

I just upgraded my storage plan thru Google and it comes with a VPN service. VPNs are something I just haven't learned much about and really don't understand that much when it comes to that topic. Is the VPN I now have access to something I should just turn on with my phone and let it run? Is it worth the benefits it claims to offer? Again...I have little knowledge on this subject and any simple advice is appreciated!

Thanks!

Ashley Joens Article

Great article on Ashley and her student teaching this summer from the Des Moines Register. I was able to read even though I am not a subscriber. Wouldn't you just love to be a fifth grader again if you could have Ashley Joens as your teacher? Sound like she is a better person than basketball player which is hard to do.
