I hear different perspectives so thought this would be a great discussion. Given the success of the Campbell era, how do you feel recruiting is going compared to what the wins and exposure should warrant?

Impressed - punching above our belts

Satisfied - about what one would expect for the wins and exposure

Disappointed - not taking advantage or benefiting enough

I'd say right now I'm satisfied. Campbell has def. changed the way we recruit and it shows with the rankings and *hopefully* in our 2 deep this year.

If we can start to land more 4 star guys I'd be impressed.

If you could get almost half/half of 3 and 4 star guys, id be VERY impressed.

I don't give a crap about stars to be honest. I am more interested in the offer list, and it seems like most of our 3 star guys have multiple P5 offers.

I guess only 'disappointed' could fit with the depth in some areas.

The talent has improved and with it is the general expectation of a bowl game even in a quasi rebuilding year like this one.

I'll move to 'impressed' if it continues deep into the NIL era.

I can agree with you there.

more stars, more high end offers though

Overall I'm Satisfied, but close to Impressed. Campbell has raised the bar, so compared to previous staffs, he's light years ahead.
I'd love to start getting more 4* guys, but as others have said, rankings don't matter too much, especially once you get past the high level recruits. Not much difference in a 4* and a 3* with P5 offers.

I broke it down by position group too:

Obviously RB recruiting has been borderline elite. Are there any other schools with 2 NFL starters right now?
Same with DL and TE. Maybe add LB to this group.

QB has also been good, and now with Kohl, very good. Probably include WR in the very good category.

Defensive Backs are maybe in the satisfied category. Hopefully we see this year that this group has taken a jump in the 2 deep depth.

OL is the disappointed group for me. Whether this is recruiting, development or just bad injury luck, hard to say. Seems like guys have had more P5 offers, but we haven't seen it on the field yet.

I'll let this thread run it's course a bit and likely put up another one regarding development of players - guessing OL will be a big topic. All good topics to get various viewpoints on.

NIL isn't going to ding football like it will hoops. When push comes to shove, relationships and development are going to matter.

I look at it more as how they evaluate and develop. Some guys are never going to be NFL players and that's fine if they can be great college players. That's what really matters. So going with a combination of how they evaluate players and develop them once they get here:

Elite: RB, TE
Very good: DL, QB, S
Good: WR, LB
Room for improvement: OL, CB

Pretty much all of these are a step up from where we've been.

I have been satisfied to impressed, I know we have some bigger recruits coming in next year, but the top end talent (4 star plus) has not been quite what I have hoped. I also am more interested in offers than stars, but in general more stars the better. I know going in to the Campbell era, I was told that DL is the hardest position to recruit. I feel we have done well there, but lacked in OL recruiting. Non OL recruiting I have been impressed but OL recruiting I have been disappointed (at least at tackle).

I have the confidence in knowing if Campbell sees something I trust him. It doesn't always play itself out in terms of rankings or stars, but he has a vision for what he wants and finds guys that fit that vision.

I lived through 0-10-1. Color me impressed.
This year will be interesting. Let's see how the young guys handle the heat. One thing I will say is we have had several years where we were wondering what we would do without Lazard, or Montgomery or several other guys that seemed to be way better than the usual Cyclone stock. So far someone like Hall or Butler has shown up and taken the leads.

Our recruiting under Coach Campbell has improved so much over previous coaches and I think that improvement is definitely seen on the field. At no time in my lifetime have we been this competitive in football. To take the next step, I think we will need more elite recruits. That is going to be difficult without some sustained national success. And that national success is difficult without real top end talent. Thus we need one of you guys to drop several hundred million in the NIL bucket.

Impressed considering I am hearing we will probably get poached by the SEC after this season because players are impressing so much
