What happens when we flush a lidless toilet

Okay, this new study was sort of gross but also failed to distinguish between commercial toilets with high water pressure flush system with the low flow low pressure home gravity tank toilet. Still, for the commercial toilets, damn!

Tuesday OT: Home for the Holidays (and what you hate about it)

Was listening to Two Guys Named Chris, and laughing listening to Hassel talk about his dad's house. The heat being set at 60, all the curtains shut, and a bright TV.
What's your gripe about going home? Having to sleep on your old, crappy mattress? Your mom getting our your old baby book to embarrass you?

Mine is crappy toilet paper. I don't feel like I buy the nicest stuff but man alive, my parent's TP of choice feels like sandpaper.

Winter Emergency Kit

Do you keep an emergency bag in your vehicle (winter or all season)? What's in yours?

We have blankets, ice scrapers and ice melt in the vehicles, plus I bought a backpack to hold some of these items:

Folding shovel
Extra socks
Gloves
Yellowstone whiskey
Emergency blanket
Ponchos
Jump Starter power bank
Flashlights
Bandaids-antiseptic
Matches
Hand/foot warmers
Playing cards
Compass/whistle
Paracord
Masks & bandanas
TP
Trash bags

Penn State dual preview

I'm fired up right now, figured I would get the discussion going for our dual with PSU tomorrow.

125- Perryman/Cabanban dec Steen 3-0 ISU - need this one, should be favored to win regardless who we send out

133- RBY dec Attasuav 3-3 ISU - RBY is 2x defending ncaa champion, ramazan looked great against vito

141- Bartlett dec Redding 6-3 PSU - Bartlett was a big recruit out of hs but was wrestling up a weight at 149, wish we had swiderski as we could see this match later on in the year at NCAAs

149- Paniro dec Van Ness 6-6 ISU - Shayne Van ness was a very big recruit out of hs, haven't seen him against elite competition yet in college. Paniro is favored based on his good wins this season but he will have his hands full here

157 - Kraisser dec Barraclaugh 9-6 ISU - this is a tossup imo and one of PSU's weaker weights, will be huge in deciding the dual

165 - Carr dec Facundo 12-6 ISU - Facundo was a highly rated pound-for-pound recruit but like Van Ness has limited experience against elite folkstyle guys in ncaa season. I think he is a much better freestyler than folkstyle.

174 - Starocci Maj Broderson 12-10 ISU - Starocci is the defending ncaa champ at 174. doesn't always light up the scoreboard, have a good chance at minimizing bonus.

184 - Brooks dec Coleman 13-12 PSU - Brooks is the 2x defending NCAA champ. He is really, really good in all positions. Marcus will have his hands full

197 Bastida dec Dean 15-13 ISU - Dean is the defending NCAA champ but I Bastida has looked so good this year. Dean has already dropped a couple of matches this year, as well. He is very good on the mat, will be interesting to see if Yonger chooses down or if Dean chooses top.

Hwt Kerkvliet forfeit 19-15 PSU - I'm assuming with one day recovery schuyler won't be able to go

Really looking forward to this one and really wish we had Swiderski for this one as I think we could win the dual.

NCAA Rules You'd Change

With the NCAA naming a new NCAA CEO last week, what structural or rule changes would you implement if you were in charge of the NCAA.

A few I would implement:
  • Get rid of National Signing Days. Athletes can commit any time after their junior year. Athletes can't sign NLI with a school within 72 hours of visiting a school. If athletes break their NLI, they must sit a year and have 4 years eligibility. This puts some teeth on an athletes commitment. And a coaching staff can feel somewhat confident they can stop recruiting to fill a positional need. There would be exceptions, allowing an athlete to break their NLI due to a change in head coach prior to signing day. Or if a school gets put on probation.
  • Eliminate the stupid concept of red-shirting athletes. Every athlete in every sport has 5 years and can play 5 years. It's silly to have a 4 game limit for football players to redshirt. Less silly, but still unneeded is a medical 6th or 9th year. Play your 5, get a degree, play professionally or get a job. Make the scholarship available for a graduating HS athlete.
  • If I really wanted to shake things up, I would divide schools into 2 groups:
    • Schools that want to participate in a pre- professional model. Athletes in profitable sports are employees of the school. Subject to a collective bargaining agreement where revenue is shared and teams are subject to salary caps. Also, media rights would be collectively negotiated. There would be attendance, alumni financial support requirements, etc. to compete in this pre-professional group.
    • A second group would be created for schools that want to participate in a traditional student-athlete scholarship model. Athletes could earn NIL for marketing deals. But pay-for-play recruiting would be prohibited. Schools that violate would face a 3-10 year sport specific death penalty. Media rights deals would be collectively negotiated. Schools would agree to pay medical costs for a period after eligibility is up. There would also be degree progress requirements to be eligible.

Conference Start

Assuming a win over Omaha, I think following with a 3-1 start to the conference is attainable. Baylor in Hilton will be tough, obviously, but not impossible. At OU, IMO, is one of the handful of realistically winnable conference road games. TCU on the road is the one I expect to lose. Then beat a TTech team that seems in a bit of chaos, at home.

Crazy? It would be an awesome start!

No Tenacity

If this team plans to make it past the Sweet 16 they need to learn how to put their foot on people’s throat. They play with no tenacity. Our two time All-American F Joens got owned by their F Siegrist most of the game (which is how you end up with 32 and 12). Siegrist played the entire 40 min for them too. After awhile wouldn’t you take it personal?!?! I know CBF has forgotten more about coaching than I ever will know but I would love to see him get after people. I was waiting for it during the atomic meltdown against UNC out in Oregon. Nothing. Tonight? Nothing. Light a fire, Bill!!!

Wife's Christmas Present

After 30 years I'm out of ideas. As the saying goes, we both have everything we want or need. Our two girls are grown, on their own, and they'll get her several impactful gifts.
I need creativity. So out of desperation and possibly exposing the matter to rude and cruse ideas I'll open the discussion. And maybe some of you will get an idea out of it as well.
Technology, done. Jewelry, done a long time ago. Home help, done. Spa stuff, done. Clothes and winter warmy stuff, done. Sex toys, she has me.
Ready, set, go!

Toys for Children

My wife and I are of the age where even creating a Christmas wish list for each other is a chore. So, this year we've decided to try to find a way to get a toy in the hands of a child who otherwise wouldn't have one. As with so many other 'General Discussion' threads, this community has provided fantastic and realist advice. We could go the 'Toys for Tots' direction, but I've never felt that gets the right toy in the hands of the right child.

Any and all suggestions/experiences would be appreciated?

Momcilovic vs Waukee NW

If you want to catch ISU hoops recruit Momcilovic his Pewaukee game against Waukee NW is on CISN's YouTube channel. Great game. Didn't realize NW is Iowa 4A #1 after beating Billew's Waukee team last week.

Momcilovic reminds me a lot of Drake's Tucker DeVries. Good ball handler for 6'8" and has quick release on jump shot. He will be a nice stretch 4. As comfortable as he is on perimeter, his post moves need some work. Will also need to add 15-20lb of muscle.

I hadn't seen Waukee NW & Iowa recruit Pryce Sandfort play in couple years. Nice player, looks to be more a stretch 4 than wing at next level.

Strangest Degree Change

The thread about the Oregon football player getting a 9th year of eligibility got me thinking back on people I knew from college who were "professional students". Most because of degree changes.

What are some of drastic degree changes people experienced themselves or by friends.

I was pretty boring- from PolySci to Business. But had one friend go from Ag Bus to Pre-Med (after 4 years) and another Business to Forestry.

If Iowa State needs a punter the Missouri punter in in the portal

Good punter. Dad punted in the NFL and cousin punts in the NFL. I suspect what happened at 2:10:45 of this video is a factor in him wanting out of Missouri.

Villanova Pre-game Notes

I had a little time on my hands and since we don't know much about the Wildcats (got it right this time) here are a few statistical comparisons.

Games of note:

Baylor - lost 75-70
USF - won 72-50
Creighton - lost 67-46

Why these?
We obviously are familiar with Baylor. The bears aren’t as good this year as in the past. The game was at a neutral site (tournament) as was the USF game.

USF shares some common opponents. They beat Jacksonville by 11 and beat TCU by 7.

Creighton we are familiar with. Guard oriented. Fast. Fundamentally sound. This was a home game for Villanova and they got hammered.

What can you take from it? They haven’t beaten anyone of note, but neither has Iowa State. ISU has had the tougher schedule by far.

Statistically speaking….

‘Nova averages scoring 71 and giving up 58 points per game
ISU averages 81 and gives up 61

Three pointers do go up from this team as they have gone 78 out of 227 or 34%
ISU is “hitting” 32% on 273 attempts

73% free throw shooting and they put up fewer than their opponents (163 to 189)
ISU is making 79% on 171 attempts.

Outbound their opponents by 3 per game (38-35)
ISU averages 44 and gives up 33.

Average SIXTEEN assists per game.
ISU averages a whopping 19 per game

Give up 10 turnovers per game
ISU gives up 13

Individuals

Maddy Siegrist averages 27 points per game. After that Lucy Olsen is the only player averaging double figures at 10.

Maddie Burke is their main three point threat (46% on 57 attempts) followed by Seigrist at 43% (on 49 attempts).

Siegrist (9) and Dalce (8) are their top rebounders.
