Good punter. Dad punted in the NFL and cousin punts in the NFL. I suspect what happened at 2:10:45 of this video is a factor in him wanting out of Missouri.

I think we are in more need of someone who can kick a field goal than a punter. I thought I read somewhere our punter got some sort of award or honor last week. If our line could hold the other teams back a little our punter would have plenty of time to do his job adequately.

The fact that his special teams were so poorly coached that they picked up the ball with 1 second left instead of letting the clock run out.

Not many P5 programs rely on a freshman to be their starting kicker, IMO Gilbert will be OK.

To me when he walked out on the field after the KU game, it's almost as if he expected to miss a lot of kicks. I don't want a kicker with a damaged psyche

Perkins was just fine. Needed to work on getting the punt off a little quicker, which I think he did. The blocking on the punt team was a train wreck at the beginning of the year, but seemed to figure it out as the year went on.

If Campbell trusts Gilbert to work through the issues and come back better, then we probably won’t need a K. If that’s even a question, then Gilbert should be in the portal now. Personally, I’d be all for grabbing someone in the portal, even if it’s just insurance.

Perhaps the fact that the coach yelled at the punter for something he has almost no control over is why OP stated the punter wants out of Missouri.

Seems like a common denominator of recent transfers to ISU is they get a lot of guys they had previous relationships with. MJ Anderson and now the RB from Stanford. Is that true or am I imagining it?

Punter also didn't call timeout prior to the punt instead of taking a delay of game.

To me, if they really want to fix ST, then first figure out what you're doing at K. Then I would look to find the best KR/PR in FCS and get him into the portal.
