That's the big announcement.

Oh, and it's an ASB Glass Floor.

NCAA Interactive Brackets

If anyone is interested in an Excel interactive bracket, Drew Newcomb on the Intermat board created a pretty great template (and he does every year):

Pretty fun to play around in the bracket and see different scenarios/paths to AA for our guys

2026 National Champions

Time to put your stamp on your 2026 National Champion picks! We get an official pre-season guess at every weight, then 1 midseason adjustment, and then a final prediction after brackets are posted before Nationals starts. Let's find out who everyone thinks will win Nationals this season. Here are my picks.

125 - Vincent Robinson
133 - Lucas Byrd
141 - Brock Hardy
149 - Shayne Van Ness
157 - Meyer Shapiro
165 - Mitchell Mesenbrink
174 - Levi Haines
184 - Max McEnelly
197 - Rocky Elam
HWT - Yonger Bastida

It's tough to put your stamp on 1 guy at every weight before the season starts. I'd like to pick 2 or 3 guys at every weight to cover myself but that isn't how it works.

Is Jefferson underappreciated?

Statistically, he's having a great year. Yet, it seems like he doesn't get the credit he deserves. I see the criticism with the turnovers and missing some bunnies (I'll admit I'm guilty of this at times as well), but if we're being honest with ourselves that is just nitpicking. He's being asked to do a lot for this team. For comparison, below are the season stats for Jefferson vs Deandre Kane for his one year here - I think most of us would agree Kane had a great season for us.

Jefferson: 16.6 PPG, 7.5 RPB, 5.2 APG, 2.5 turnovers per game (47.7 FG%, 36.1 3 pt%, 69.7 FT%)
Kane: 16 PPG, 5.6 RPB, 4.9 APG, 2.9 turnovers per game (48.3 FG%, 39.8 3 pt%, 63.5 FT%)

He only has a few more games here. Appreciate him in real time and not just when you look back on him here.

Nuremburg

Watched it last night and liked it. Didn't blow me away but it was entertaining.

But I had a question for WWII history buffs regarding Admiral Karl Donitz, Supreme Commander of the Kriegsmarine (Navy). He was one of the 22 defendants and got the lightest sentence, 10 years.

But from my (very little) knowledge of the guy he was career Navy way before Hitler came to power and never joined the Nazi Party. He seems a little like Erwin Rommel (who the Nazi's murdered), in that he was a career guy who loved and fought for his country.

Apparently, he ended the Kriegsmarine's policy of rescuing overboard enemy sailors after one of his U-boats got attacked by a US B-24 while rescuing survivors of a ship they'd just hit. And the US had a similar policy.

I assume it was because he became president of the Third Reich after Hitler, Goebbels, and Himmler had all offed themselves. And according to the movie, Hermann Goring was Hitler's number two since the 1930's or before. Seems to me Donitz kind of got left holding the bag. His only line in the movie is (paraphrasing), "I've been here (in custody) for 76 days and not charged with a crime".

Was this guy doing some awful sh*t I haven't heard about?

Negotiating salary - new job

Had an interview today that went well. The company is talking about essentially creating a position for me which is cool. I stated a desired salary range which seemed to land fine. If things advance I want to make sure I start out as high as possible. Any tips from recent job hires for negotiating salary? Been a while since I’ve switched jobs.

Build Your Region

For discussion purposes, let's pencil in Iowa State as a 2 seed. Build your region from there. What teams do you want to avoid? What teams would you like to see in our bracket?

Personally I'd love to see Gonzaga or Nebraska as the 3 seed in our region.

Gonzaga plays in a soft conference. Not battle tested. I really like that possible sweet 16 #2/#3 matchup.

Nebraska's offense depends on timing and rhythm. You aren't going to play in rhythm against our defense. Im not sure Nebraska has the playmakers in their backcourt to handle our pressure.

Im torn in regards to the 1 seed. Michigan and Duke both lost guards in their rotation to season ending injuries. Is Florida proven (I know they've been racking up wins in the SEC)?

I'd sign up for Florida as the #1 and Gonzaga as the #3 right now.

No potential matchups against in-state foes UNI or Iowa please. Just don't need that whatsoever.

Vibrant Arena - Moline

Driving over to Moline tomorrow to see Bailey Zimmerman at Vibrant Hall. Anybody have recs for where we could watch the Iowa State game before that’s within walking distance to the arena? Hoping to watch the whole game and then head straight to the arena since there is only one opener and the concert starts at 7. TIA!

Watch Otzelberger & seven Cyclone players following win over Texas Tech

No. 7 Iowa State is moving onto the semifinals of the Big 12 Tournament following a 75-53 win against No. 16 Texas Tech.

Watch everything T.J. Otzelberger, Joshua Jefferson, Tamin Lipsey, Milan Momcilovic, Nate Heise, Jamarion Batemon, Killyan Toure and Cade Kelderman said after the game. https://cyclonefanatic.com/2026/03/...yclone-players-following-win-over-texas-tech/

Batemon & Toure

Great win yesterday after a bit of a struggle out the gates. Now that we’re entering crunch time, I’d really like to see Batemon getting even more minutes or starting over Toure.

Toure has had more minutes than Batemon in every game this year, until the Utah game. Since then, Batemon has roughly 57% to 42% of the minutes between the two. That ratio needs to be more weighted to Batemon (maybe either Batemon starting).

The charts below show, since early Feb, Toure’s influence on the total score has been trending down and net negative since mid February (dotted line is running 5-game average) while Batemon’s has been trending up with more minutes.

I understand valuing Toure’s on-ball D. But that prioritization is not influencing an overall positive outcome right now. I believe O is more important come March and Batemon’s shooting provides spacing on the floor for more efficient half court offense, while still being able to force turnovers on the defensive end. I’m hesitant but willing to say it, I think I’d move Lipsey to the point and start Batemon over Toure.
