Cardinal & Gold Collective Announces David Carr as Associate Director

AMES — The Cardinal & Gold Collective announced on Friday morning the hiring of two-time NCAA champion David Carr as the Associate Director of the Collective.

In a release issued by the Collective, Ryan Rohlk, Collective Director, said this about adding Carr to the team:

“Since David came to Iowa State, he has been dedicated to building the wrestling program and attracting the best talent to train in Ames. Today, he enters the next phase of that mission. David has a natural ability to connect with other athletes, staff, and Cyclone wrestling fans. His wrestling skills won him two national titles, but his commitment to building relationships with our donors will continue to create opportunities for other student-athletes to succeed on and off the mat.”

Carr closed out his historic Cyclone career this month by leading Iowa State back into a top-five program finish. Iowa State won a Big 12 team title and finished fourth at the national tournament. Carr himself finished with an undefeated home dual record at Hilton Coliseum, a five-time All-American, and a two-time NCAA Champion.

In the release, head coach Kevin Dresser praised the opportunity to add Carr to the staff, whose role will be working directly with student-athletes to help facilitate their NIL opportunities, cultivating donors, and planning event outings.

“I’m thrilled for David and his new opportunity to do something he is so passionate about. In this new role, he gets to help connect our current and future student-athletes with the Cardinal & Gold Collective. His wrestling credentials speak for themselves, and with his infectious personality, he will be invaluable to the Cardinal & Gold Collective. David will go down as one of the greatest Cyclones ever, and this role allows him to continue building on that legacy.”

Here is what Carr had to say about the role in the release:

“I can’t wait to get started in this new role, as my strengths and personality fit the position perfectly. I love being a Cyclone, and this is an amazing opportunity for me to stay and train in Ames while bridging connections between athletes and Cardinal & Gold’s financial partners.”
