Matt Campbell talks gambling situation during tailgate tour stop

Iowa State football coach Matt Campbell addressed media members on Monday in Paton, Iowa during the annual Tailgate Tour to speak about the program’s potential gambling-related penalties.

Campbell will cross that bridge when his group needs to.

“We’ll just deal with whatever comes our way,” Campbell said. “Really, we don’t know a whole lot, and at least what we do know, I don’t know if it has a profound effect one way or another – and, you know, it’s part of college athletics in today’s world.”

The concerns arose after Iowa State released a statement saying 15 different athletes surrounding different sports were being included in accusations.

“I don’t even know enough about it to be quite honest with you, and obviously, we’re going to learn a lot about it it sounds like,” Campbell said. “It’s one of those things – there’s rules and there’s regulations and over time those rules and regulations may continue to change in some way, shape or form. But there’s rules and part of (it) is that you have to follow the rules.”

“We had a great spring,” Campbell said. “I really love what our football team looks like coming back and we’ll be ready for whatever comes our way.”
