Despite a slow start on the offensive side of things, No. 15 Iowa State rolled to a 81-58 win in its Big 12 opener Saturday.
The Cyclones stifled Texas Tech in the second quarter, allowing only 12 points for the Lady Raiders in the frame, and eventually pulled away despite an off-night from the 3-point line.
Iowa State made just four of its 26 3-point attempts during the game, but managed to win by 23 in spite of that.
Ashley Joens and Lexi Donarski combined for 43 points in the game and each made one of the team’s elusive 3-pointers on Saturday.
Stephanie Soares handled her Big 12 Conference debut as well as anyone could expect her to, collecting 14 points and 16 rebounds to help the Cyclones to a 1-0 start in Big 12 play.
The Cyclones will return to the court on Wednesday, January 4 to face off with West Virginia in Ames (6:30 p.m. ESPN+)
