Kunc expected to use COVID year, return for second season in Ames

At least one Cyclone will be using his extra year of eligibility and returning for another season in Ames.

Aljaz Kunc is expected to use his COVID year in order to play a fifth year of college basketball and his second season in Ames, as first reported by NCAA Basketball Slovenia.

Kunc averaged 6.0 points and 4.1 rebounds per game in his first season at Iowa State while shooting 39 percent from deep and 41.9 percent from the field. The Washington State transfer was also a crucial piece of Iowa State’s defensive resurgence in year one under T.J. Otzelberger.

Kunc is the first Cyclone upperclassman to publicly commit to returning next season. Iowa State currently has four open scholarships for the 2022-23 season.
