Purdy named to O’Brien Award watch list

Iowa State junior quarterback Brock Purdy has been named to the Davey O’Brien Award watch list.

The Davey O’Brien Award is given annually to the nation’s top quarterback in college football. Purdy was a semifinalist for the award last season during his record-breaking sophomore campaign.

The Gilbert, Ariz. native broke essentially every program record possible for a quarterback, including passing yardage (3,982), total offense (4,231), passing touchdowns (27), touchdowns responsible (35) and completions (312).

He was the Big 12’s leading passer and finished the season fourth nationally in passing yardage. He enters his third season in the program already holding 21 school records across game, season and career leaderboards.

Assuming the season is played as planned, Purdy will almost certainly finish his junior year as the program’s all-time leader in career passing yards and passing touchdowns.
