WBB: Joens named national, Big 12 player of the week

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State sophomore Ashley Joens was named the Big 12 Player of the Week and ESPNW National Player of the Week after averaging 33.5 points and 12.5 rebounds in two games on the week.

Joens’ Big 12 Player of the Week honor is her second of the season, while her national recognition is the first of her career and the first by any Cyclone player in program history.  

Joens started the week with 26 points and 12 rebounds against Iowa. On Sunday, Joens dominated Wright State, scoring 41 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Her 41 points ranks second in school history. Joens was incredible in the 4th quarter, as Wright State pulled within two possessions of the Cyclones, Joens scored 18, 4th-quarter points to put the game away for ISU.

Joens drew 25 fouls on the week and leads the nation in free-throw attempts (86) and makes (77). Joens also ranks second in the nation in scoring, averaging 24.4 points per game.

Iowa State is back in action on Sunday at 5 p.m. against Northern Iowa.
