Joens named to Naismith Trophy Midseason List

ATLANTA – Iowa State women’s basketball sophomore Ashley Joens was named to the 2020 Citizen Naismith Trophy Midseason List for the Women’s Player of the Year. Joens’ appearance on the list is the first of the season as she was not included on the initial watch list of 50 players.

Joens has had a tremendous start to her sophomore campaign, averaging 21.3 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. She is the only player in the nation averaging 20.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. She has been a double-double machine this season, collecting 13 double-doubles on the season. Joens has been named Big 12 Player of the Week five times, while no other Big 12 player has claimed the honor more than twice. Joens also earned espnW, National Player of the week after a 41-point performance against Wright State.

Joens is one of just three Big 12 players to make the Midseason Top-30, joining Baylor’s Lauren Cox and NaLyssa Smith.

The 10 semifinalists will be announced on March 3, and the finalists will be revealed on March 20. The winner of the 2020 Citizen Naismith Trophy for Women’s Player of the Year will be announced on April 4.
