WRESTLING: ISU lands transfer from state champion

AMES – Iowa State got some good news Wednesday afternoon. Rutgers redshirt freshman Alex Mackall is transferring to Iowa State, according to the program’s official Twitter account.

Mackall is from Austintown, Ohio and went to Walsh Jesuit High School. According to the Rutgers website, Mackall is 3-4 this season and was rated the No. 10 126-pounder in the nation in high school.

According to a tweet put out by Iowa State, Mackall was the 2015 Ohio state champion and was ranked No. 71 in his recruiting class.

Earlier this week at his weekly press conference, head coach Kevin Dresser mentioned that an incoming transfer wouldn’t be eligible to compete until next season.

It seems as though Mackall will be coming in to compete for the 125-pound starting position.
