RECRUITING: JUCO CB Morgan decommits from Iowa State

Junior college cornerback Octavious Morgan has decommitted from Iowa State’s 2017 recruiting class, according 247’s Alex Halsted. Multiple attempts by Cyclone Fanatic to reach Morgan have been unsuccessful.

The 6-foot, 200-pound, prospect, who attends Butler County Community College, committed to Iowa State after a weekend visit back in June. He came on his official visit this past weekend for Iowa State’s season opening loss to Northern Iowa.

Morgan was rated as the top JUCO cornerback in the country when he committed to Iowa State on June 19, but has since slipped back in the ratings and now sits at No. 6, according to 247 Composite.

He originally picked Iowa State over offers from Arkansas, Baylor, West Virginia and others.

The Greenwood, S.C. native made six tackles in Butler’s season opening win a couple weeks ago. The team had a bye last week allowing him to come on his official visit.

It isn’t entirely clear what led to Morgan’s decommitment, but it would make sense if it had something to do with Iowa State’s continued recruitment of Arizona Western CC defensive back Keisean Nixon, who currently rated as the No. 5 JUCO cornerback in the country.

Nixon was the junior college roommate of current Iowa State starting star linebacker D’Andre Payne.

Iowa State now has 19 commits in their 2017 class, including four three-star high school defensive backs.
