AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State volleyball team took the reins as they hosted the Cyclone Challenge this weekend. In their third match of the Cyclone Challenge, the Cyclones swept Northern Illinois 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-15) Saturday afternoon in Hilton Coliseum.

The win left the Cyclones on a high note after going 3-0 this weekend defeating Omaha, Tennessee, and Northern Illinois. After three days of play, the Cyclones improved their record to 3-2 on the season.

Turning Point of the Match

The first two sets of the match were a battle for both the Cyclones and the Huskies as both teams were 2-0 thus far in the Cyclone Challenge. Northern Illinois scored at least 20 in both first sets; however, the third set was a different story.

It was a rough beginning for the Cyclones in the third set as they trailed 8-4. It didn’t take long though, for them to show who was in control of the game. Out of an Iowa State timeout Victoria Hurtt had several momentum changing plays that gave Iowa State a 8-7 lead. The Cyclones took the lead and ran with it, making it 17-10 in no time. The lead sealed the deal and gave Iowa State a little room to have some fun on the court.
