The following is a press release courtesy of Iowa State athletics communications.

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State volleyball team battled hard in a loss to No. 13 Florida State Sunday afternoon at Hilton Coliseum. The Seminoles swept ISU 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-11) in the second and final match of the AVCA Showcase to continue their season on a high note with a record of 2-0. Iowa State falls to 0-2.

Turning Point of the Match

The Cyclones started out with momentum right off the bat in the first set. It was constant back-to-back scoring between the Seminoles and ISU. However, Florida State managed to slip away with the win. Going into the second set, the Cyclones had high hopes looking to grab the second set. However, this was not in the future of determined ISU.

In the second set, ISU was catching a quick glance of possible success with Mackenzie Bigbee and Ciara Capezio smashing a combined 13 kills, but the Cyclones couldn’t close out the win against the Seminoles’ dynamic defense and big block.

Cyclone Match Ball goes to…

Caitlin Nolan. Nolan scrambled for 15 digs total in today’s match. Her defense kept the Cyclones together in their fight against the Seminoles. Nolan’s ability to know the court and her defense will lead the Cyclones to some effective offense throughout the season.

On Deck

Iowa State will return to Hilton Coliseum on Thursday for the first match of the Iowa State Challenge against Omaha. The match will begin at 6:30 p.m.
