AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State volleyball team showed great fight in defeat to No. 3 Stanford Friday night at Hilton Coliseum. The Cardinal swept ISU 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-19) in the opening match of the AVCA Showcase to start the season 1-0. Iowa State falls to 0-1.

Turning Point of the Match

Unfortunately for the Cyclones, Stanford controlled the match from the start. However, Iowa State showed it would go down with its head held high late in the second set. The Cardinal had dominated to that point, up 24-11 looking to close out the second frame. However, ISU was able to catch a wind of momentum with the assistance of the 2,733 present inside Hilton Coliseum.

The Cyclones ripped off seven consecutive points, with Victoria Hurtt posting three kills in the run. The run allowed Iowa State some momentum in defeat heading into the locker room, leading to a great battle in the third set.
