Banks’ career as a Cyclone is over

According to an Iowa State press release that was sent out earlier today, Iowa State senior cornerback Kennard Banks has been suspended from the football team and will not participate in the Insight Bowl against Minnesota.

The release states that the suspension is being enforced after “violations of team rules.”

Banks started 12 games for Iowa State this season and recorded 55 tackles, one interception and also broke up five passes.

Chris’ Take

It’s a good thing that Ter’ran Benton is ready to go. If Benton is at full speed, which Paul Rhoads said he was just a week ago, this really won’t be that big of a deal for the Iowa State football team. The two are fairly equal from a talent standpoint. Banks is a senior so he obviously wasn’t going to be around next season.

Benton wil do a fine job. Plus, it’s not like Iowa State is going up against a Texas Tech style of offense in the Insight Bowl. Minnesota’s pass offense ranks 82nd nationally.

It is a shame that Banks won’t be able to end his Cyclone career on New Year’s Eve with the team. But by no means is this a reason for Cyclone fans to panic.
