two terrible actors.

one with two terrible enhancements.

If Iowa wants to hook recruits..get Tom Brokaw/Gene Wilder in the illegal activities.

not two wore/whored out twitter celebs.

maybe we can get Jake Johannsen to start hooking us up?

I just saw on WHO a quote from Mims that "the university is remorseful" about these violations. No accountability at all. Nothing will come of this, but am guessing the NC2A is not too impressed with his non-apology. C'mon, how can a university feel remorseful?

Unless (and this is too horrible to contemplate) THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA HAS BECOME SELF-AWARE!

Brokaw graduated from the University of South Dakota after dropping out at Iowa, so he's not even an alumni.
If I met Ashton Kutcher on a recruiting visit I would probably go to the school farthest away from Iowa after telling him that Just Married and My Boss's Daughter are two of the worst movies ever made.

I kind of liked those movies. And The Butterfly Effect was awesome. Did Kutcher graduate from Iowa or drop out to persue his modelling career?

Iowa violates these minor rules on a regular basis, so I'm surprised they self-reported this.

And yes, UNC violated NCAA rules during their recruitment of HB. Duke likely did as well.

They HAD to self report this. The kids were telling everyone how they met the actors on their visit. Facebook, twitter, etc. The University had to make a premptive move or it would have been worse.

Interesting. They have Brokaw on the UofI commercials doing voiceover

People are not getting the difference between unofficial and official. I doubt 'Ol Roy and Coach Kychewski knowingly violated NCAA rules on Barnes visits.

Sounds like Gary Barta and Fred Mims are very "remorseful" for "indaventently" and "unintentionally" escorting some recuits to a "Suite" at the football game. I am sure that "steps have been taken" to correct the "sloppy management by our coaching staff". Boy, what an uncomfortable situation this must have been for the entire Athletic Department and Coaching Staff!! Yeah right!

Exactly, and I'd imagine both of those coaches know the rules well enough to tip toe them without actually breaking them.

Not saying those two b-list actors would make a difference, but what's really stopping a school from doing it? If it's just a slap on the wrist, the damage has already been done because the recruit has met the person by that point. The NCAA should create a rule saying something along the lines that if a school is in violation of this, said recruit cannot be offered an athletic scholarship from the school. Sure there are ways around that, but it could probably at least make it more difficult for a school that may be able to offer real celebrities for recruits.

And the NCAA punishment is.......nothing. This "accidental" violation was the best PR Iowa basketball has received in years and they don't even get a slap on the wrist. I realize that this isn't a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but unknowingly violating rules or laws in most other instances doesn't let you walk away with zero. Ignorance of rules was no excuse last time I checked.

Staiger unknowingly violated a NCAA rule too, received no compensation for it, and got hammered. Apparently no harm, no foul, only works in select instances.

Come on man, did we get screwed? Yes

But this Iowa story was one of the biggest non story's ever. It was nothing but was still all over just in case it became a story.

Haha this story is still in the news....

Adrian Clayborn punches a Taxi driver and goes on without suspension and that is never talked about..

I wish we had some of Iowa's PR spin.
