I keep going back to espn.com to check on the draft and it seems like for the last 2 hours TJ Tampa has been the best overall available.
I mean he's not even listed in the top 10 remaining on NFL Network. After like the first 40 picks, it seems like a real crapshoot this year

If you ever read the anonymous "scouts say" stuff in the off-season, you find pretty quickly that a lot of low-mid level scouts are really just not very good. Some scouts are good, but there are some I think only have the job due to connections.
You're right about the "scouts" doing their own blog or Twitter thing not being very good. But when national pundits (ESPN, CBS Sports, etc.) all say something similar, like Lazard late 3rd through 5th in 2018, and Tampa 2nd or 3rd this year, and it doesn't happen, it really sucks.

And it feeds into the sh*ty stuff people like the Iowa fans mentioned earlier in this thread will say about Cyclones.

I'm not talking about "scouts" on blogs. I'm talking about the actual low to mid level NFL scouts talking to media anonymously in the off-season. There are so.e extremely bad takes among that crowd.

This is some BS. A team is going to get a steal and all the other teams are going to be sorry they passed.

I wonder what teams don't like about him. I hadn't followed a lot of national stuff about Tampa but ESPN and CW made it seem like he couldn't possibly go later than the 2nd or 3rd round.

I am in the camp that NFL front office types look at ISU players and still think that the kid could not be that good and if he is, then why is he playing for ISU in Cedar Fall Idaho? They think players like Lazard, Hall and Purdy were flukes and no way could a player that productive be coming out of a small school in the middle of Indiana or is it Idaho, wherever ISU is located. In other words, our players do not get the free pass that gets them into the discussion like players from UT, OU or even EIU. The only way to change that is keep producing quality NFL products year after year and prove them wrong.
Take Worthy who the Chiefs took in the first round, no way he gets picked that high if he had played at ISU instead of UT. They would look at his size and discount his breakaway speed and therefore downgrade him. Tampa is going to be a very good pro player and have a nice 10 year career, you just have to give him his shot.

Disagree. Scouting at the NFL level is tasked with identifying talent, period. Millions of dollars are spent in that pursuit. To think that all of the teams would fall victim to such an obvious oversight is pretty ludicrous. It's also belied by the fact that the first cornerback taken in this year's draft was from a MAC school.
