First things first, I am a huge fan of Oklahoma State hoops coach Mike Boynton.
The 39-year old clearly has the Cowboy program moving in the right direction, which is why Oklahoma State extended him on Monday for seven years with a nearly $2 million annual raise.
It does come with some risk though.
Life without Cade Cunningham will prove to be more difficult.
Prior to Cunningham’s arrival in Stillwater, Boynton’s Cowboy teams were a combined 20-34 in Big 12 play. With Cunningham, who will be the first pick in this summer’s NBA Draft, the Cowboys jumped to 11-7 and made the NCAA Tournament.
Extending him was the right move. Boynton was reportedly receiving interest from a handful of other high-major schools. He is young, charismatic and seems to be getting a once proud basketball fan base excited again.
You can’t help but wonder about life without Cade Cunningham though.
