Yeah I know we have other priorities and we don't have the money yet and all that...but I'd really like this idea given some consideration when the next round of Stadium improvements comes around. I've always felt that the stadium never looked complete. Kind of like we ran out of money and stopped. The reason...seeing the i-beams and underside of the upper deck. If you look at Hilton and Jack Trice they're actually are some similarities to them. I'm thinking that if we just added a facade to the columns and the underside of the upper deck the stadium would actually look pretty cool and match the exterior of Hilton. I know it's just aesthetics but the stadium is probably the first thing a recruit sees coming into town, it would be nice to make a good first impression.

I don't know if its feasible from a construction standpoint or how much it would cost but Jack Trice isn't going anywhere soon and I think this would really add to it's curb appeal for really what might not be all that much money.

Anyway heres a before and after photoshop hack job of what I had in mind.

I think it's a valid point. I never really thought of that before, but it does have that "unfinished" look.

How many other BCS-conference stadiums have an open-underside look? I just wondered whether it's common or unusual.

Your sample brush-ups definitely improve the "feel."

The Unfinished Effect probably applies to the hillsides, too, which is why we're seeing continual posts about bowling-in. Which I think would help.

West Virginia basically has the same stadium we do. Here's a pic from outside. Can still see the underside of the bleachers but no i-beams. Looks a lot more solid.

Good example. Thanks.

Another idea, which might not make sense, be affordable or have any real use, but I'd like to see it. Could you try to doctor a pic (use that first one in your post) to fully enclose that space, making a wall straight down?

Maybe that could be turned into some sort of indoor mini-mall area. I'm just thinkin' big here.

I mainly want to see what it would look like from the outside. And my brain is too lazy to visualize it. :biglaugh:

I wish we could get some new speakers, the ones we have now are AWFUL
This. I honestly think that this should be the first priority for the stadium but JP has already said he wants to fix the sound system at the same time as finishing the south endzone so it could be awhile.

I like that as a good short term solution, eventually we really need to go straight down though.

The question is if JP started a separate fund for fans to contribute to would you? If JP started this say for a new PA system for $2MM (guessing at the cost) would fans contribute to this individual item. Sometimes people like to know exactly where their contribution is going - this may be a bad idea but with smaller items (like $2MM is small) maybe this is a way to make this happen.

IMO there are more important things that need to be done like the remodel of Hilton first. To those of us who work in the construction field the look now is not a problem.

That must be a big game for them... it's somewhat full

Look at the left side. Right after the band/students, where the shade starts hitting the bleacher, notice how the colors of the shirts go from yellow to a reddish color. The entire shaded part is visitors. I'm guessing the Sooners or (more likely) the Aggies were in town.

But yeah, speakers need to happen.

The South endzone of Memorial Stadium in Lincoln looks just as bad, maybe worse when you see it close up and walk around under there. The rest of their stadium makes up for it I guess, plus you only see the brick exterior from anywhere outside the stadium.

So if you are in the construction field you have a better idea of what looks better to the majority of people?

I think the proposed look looks good. I doubt it will ever happen and I doubt it is cheap to do so I would rather see some of the other stuff done first.

I don't know about THAT, but I personally l like exposed structures so I can see how everything went together... but I'm a nerd like that.

I do think the cost to suspend precast panels underneath would be pretty high for a purely aesthetic improvement. Even just encasing the columns and beams in concrete would be pretty pricey after the fact. Although it would "match" Hilton a little better that way.

Bottom line- get rid of the south hillsides and aluminum bleachers, and we won't have to worry about the "look" of our stadium.

i think hanging those large banner or grahics like baylor would be a cheap easy way to add a nice look to the exterior

Okay so what i don't get is... the second deck.. why not just completely bowl it in and around, gives it a more "finished" look if you will, plus it would add more seating...

We should just build up the concession stand exterior walls high enough to make an enclosed concourse.

Maybe they are leaving it open so it's easier to add the third deck on each side when we need to expand to 75,000+ in the next 10 years or so.
