Sept. 12, 2018
Dear Cyclone fans,
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we worked through the challenges associated with the cancellation of our football game on Sept. 1. We are pleased to share with you that our football team will play host to the University of the Incarnate Word, a FCS program from the Southland Conference, on Dec. 1, 2018, at 1 p.m.
I want to share several thoughts with you regarding the scheduling of this game and, hopefully, answer questions you may have regarding this announcement.
The process of identifying and securing a replacement for our cancelled game was quite challenging and I want to recognize the Cardinals’ Athletic Director Brian Wickstrom and Coach Eric Morris for their assistance.
Once again, I want to thank everyone for their incredible patience and understanding in the aftermath of the cancellation. It is moments like this that make me realize what a privilege it is to serve as your Director of Athletics.
Go Cyclones!

- The decision to reschedule the game was very important to Coach Campbell and our football team as well as the members of our marching band and spirit squad. The 500 young men and women on those squads only have so many opportunities to represent our institution and perform for you. We were committed to doing everything we could to provide that opportunity.
- All fans that purchased tickets to our game vs. South Dakota State will be provided admission to our football game on Dec. 1. The process of reissuing tickets and parking for this game will be challenging and we ask for your continued patience as we work through the logistics. Our ticket office will communicate directly with you once we have finalized the process.
- We will play the game against UIW on Dec. 1 regardless of our bowl eligibility at that point. The only reason we would not play the game is if we are in the Big 12 Championship game or UIW is in the FCS football playoffs.
- The decision to play the game regardless of our bowl eligibility is mainly due to the new redshirt rule that allows football student-athletes to play in four games without having their participation count as a season of eligibility. Playing this game would likely allow some young football student-athletes the opportunity to play in an actual game, which will be great for their overall development.
