I have a Wisconsin VG4D engine on my trailer-mounted rig. It would not start, and seemed to be a bad fuel pump as it was not getting fuel up to the carburetor. So I bought a new fuel pump and installed it and nothing. When I turn the motor the piston from the engine to the pump lever moves up and down, and when I re-attached the pump and then removed it AND the piston from the engine, I could feel and hear air being sucked through the pump as I moved the piston up and down.

When I blow on the gas tank (using a roll of paper towels) I can get gasoline up to the settling bowl, so I know the lines aren't clogged.

I have tried starting the engine with some carb-cleaner sprayed into the carburetor and it runs for a few seconds but still will not draw fuel from the tank.

Anyone out there have any ideas?

I hate to take it in to the ag implement places now as they are so busy getting people ready for harvest - it would cost me a fortune I do not have.

Just seeing this thread now so sorry but I am pretty sure you have some jets clogged in the carburator. They are usually pretty simple to take off and not a lot of pieces. take it apart and blow air in all the jets and clean the crap out of it. I usually say take the spark plug out and see what it looks like to determine your problem but the fact it will run when you spray carb cleaner in it tells me it's a gas problem. I would guess the tube that draws the gas from the bowl up to the intake is clogged. SImple fix
