I never saw the musical Wicked. I was in musicals in high school and have really liked some movie musicals but I don’t go out of my way to see them for the most part. Didn’t really have a desire to see Wicked in theaters but better half and a bunch of friends wanted to go so we did.

Let me tell ya. This is one of the best movies of the year. Really exceeded my expectations in many ways. Really really solid and it’s gonna be up for a **** ton of awards. And dare I say Ariana Grande should probably win best supporting actress.

It’s crazy even for me that I’m saying all this. But it really is that good.

My wife went with some friends and loved it. Not a big musical guy but I really want to see it

I saw the musical on Broadway about two years ago. I went into it with low expectations and came away really impressed. I was blown with Defying Gravity as the actress had one of the best voices I'd ever heard live.

Glad to hear that about the movie adaptation. I may see about getting to a showing this weekend.

Would you recommend it to folks that aren't musical folks? How much of it is actually singing and dancing?

My 2 cents. It kind of depends on what you mean by "aren't musical". If you are indifferent, looking to be entertained, then yes, I would recommend. If you are anti-musical, and you're hoping there isn't too much singing and dancing, then no, I would not recommend.

Do you remember which Elphaba you saw? The actress' name?

I'm a bit of a theatre nerd, so I can't wait to see this. Especially since I've heard they added even more of the book to the movie than was in the stage production (which I saw on tour). Unfortunately, I'll probably have to wait for streaming.

It’s a musical so quite a bit. But I was expecting more I guess in terms of songs. Did you like Chicago? Moulin Rouge?

If you really don’t like singing and dancing it may not be for you. But the story itself is pretty clever and deep.

I don't like musicals or plays, well except Book of Mormon.

Took my wife because she was dying to go and I'm awesome. But I gotta say, even as someone that is not a musical fan at all, it is pretty good. Good characters, good acting, and some pretty funny moments too. The sets and the universe they created were great and a lot of fun.

I'd say it's a ton of singing and dancing, way more than the Wizard of Oz. Personally I think the story could've used a little more development and a little less music, but that's not really the point of a musical I guess.

Having never seen the musical and just knowing the minimal plot of Wicked I have some assumptions on how things all play out in part 2 next year and if I’m right it’s gonna be pretty awesome and clever how the story intersects with Wizard of Oz.

Wife and I took the kids. We've seen it a couple times on stage but we all liked the movie better. Thought it was incredibly well done.

I saw it with Ana Gasteyer originally - my first musical - and it was phenomenal. I've seen it 3 times since then and each was progressively less impressive. Quality of performers dropped over time. Hoping to go see the movie soon. Have been largely spending time on it since about August and honestly was a bit sick of it by November before I remembered that I love the music.

I can't remember. We might still have the playbill at home, but I'd have to do some digging around. When she hit that climactic note, it was POWERFUL. I could have only heard that song and left and I would been happy with the money I spent.

location and year?

The musicals are always better than the movies (just like books)... That being said, it's not a knock against the movie. I hear this one is quite good. Musicals usually offer up something different and mostly better. JMO.

I recognize the stage version for the iconic thing that it is, but I wasn’t blown away by it when I saw it years ago. The second act, man, I’m checking my watch. So I wasn’t overly excited about the movie version.

Turns out it’s really good. It’s visually impressive, it flows very nicely, it doesn’t drag at all. And Grande and Erevo are absolutely outstanding. Even the character of Fiyero, who was mostly a blank cipher to me onstage, stands out in an understandable way.

Oh, I still have nits to pick - and the fact that Part 2 will cover the second act that I found so draggy - so I’m not out here saying it’s the best movie of all time. But it’s one of the best movies of this year, no question.

And “Popular” will never not be a banger of a song.
