I've posted it before and I'll post it again: Jamie Pollard has not doubled the athletic budget.

ISU's athletic budget in FY2005, when Pollard arrived, was $27.8 million. Here it is from the Board of Regent's financial statement (see page 9):

http://www2.state.ia.us/Regents/Meetings/DocketMemos/05Memos/may05/0505_ITEM07.pdf

ISU's athletic budget in FY2007 was $33.6 million, and the FY2008 preliminary budget was $36.6 million. Again, straight from the Board of Regent's financial statement (see page 4):

http://www2.state.ia.us/regents/Meetings/DocketMemos/07Memos/jun07/0607_ITEM01.pdf

Jamie has talked about doubling the budget, but like most things he talks about, he doesn't actually do it.

I'll be the first to admit, JP has not doubled the budget, that has been misreported by media and message board users alike. What he has done is still remarkable. FYI, current budget is a little under 45 million. The increase this year is partly because of the Hilton takeover.

Anticipated budget of 42 million. If you add Jacobson's gift plus another million for improved TV coverage for ISU and Big12, both of which were unanticipated, ISU's revenue this year will be close to 48 million.

Like I said, check the approved budgets. Not Jamie's anticipated, proposed, or projected ones. The Board of Regent's has never approved as much as Jamie has anticipated, proposed, or projected yet, and with the current economy, 2009 is not likely to be the first time.

The approved budget is 42 million for this fiscal year!!! Open the link and find out for yourself. The link is from the Iowa Board of Regents for FY 2009 (which is the fiscal year we are currently in). Iowa State's current budget is 42 million, I don't know how many ways I can say that.

If Iowa State gets the revenue that they budgeted for (which it is usually pretty close), ISU will have revenue of about 48 million at the end of this fiscal year in June. Thank you Jacobson!

Just for future reference, for your sake, a budget is anticipated earnings and expenses.

No it isn't. The $36m one is approved. The $42m one is "budgeted". It is not yet approved. Even if it is -- which it won't be -- Jamie had a $27m budget when he started. How has he "doubled" the budget?
