1984 Olympics

Nawal El Moutawakel winning the gold medal in the Women's 400m hurdles.
Danny Harris winning the silver medal in the Men's 400m hurdles.

EDIT: Looking at theshadow's post I can't believe I left out Cael Sanderson!

Somewhere in the U.S.
I have an unfair advantage here. In 1984, I worked for the concessions and novelty company handling the sales at the Los Angeles Coliseum and Sports Arena. So, I was around the 16 days of the track and field competition at the Coliseum, and the boxing competition at the Sports Arena. Plus, the Coliseum had the opening and closing ceremonies.

Two main events I remember, although I cannot remeber the names. But the female long-distance runner for the U.S. that was tripped by the runner from South Africa I believe......can't remember the name. And, just the opening ceremonies. It was an incredible experience.

Chick gymnast nailing the vault on one good wheel. Incredible. I almost cried.

When John Candy took a handful of Jamaican track stars and turned them into Olympic Bobsledders.

Like drlove said, too many moments to effectively choose one.

I love the opening ceremonies! Especially the last few years that they have been in HD.

I am ticked off this year because I have to travel out of the US during the olympics. Ugh, of all the times!

Mine would have to be Cael winning the gold and the Original Dream Team dominating the world. That team was just fun to watch.

It's the Olympics, it's on TV all over the world. It might not be HD and you may have to watch, listen in a foreign language. The team sports it may show just that countries athletes but for swimming and track and field it will show athletes from other countries.

I can't name a single moment, but I do have a favorite comment - At the rowing medal ceremony for the 2004 Olympics: "Ah, isn't that nice, the wife of the IOC president is hugging the cox of the British crew."
