Nice! Christy's third Top 10 class at ISU.

http://www.cyclones.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=10700&ATCLID=210114416

Iowa State’s class features three of the top-35 recruits nationally as ranked by PrepVolleyball.com, joining Texas and Wisconsin as the only teams to have at least three top-35 recruits. The trio is led by setter Remi Bowman of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, who comes in as the No. 22 recruit nationally, tied with former Cyclone middle blocker Jamie Straube as the highest-ranked recruit in program history. Outside hitter Jess Schaben of Harlan, Iowa is ranked as the No. 27 recruit by PrepVolleyball.com and right-side hitter Hannah Bailey of Cameron, Wisconsin is the No. 33 recruit.

Wonder how high we'd be if they added Grace? It must be just domestic recruits that these services rank?

It will be interesting to follow this group through and see how they develop. I hope they contribute right away.

CJL is Pollard's best hire to date, IMO. She just needs to get a conference title.

I think I have said that before about her being a good Pollard hire and someone said it was actually the Bruce guy who hired her.

Yea, Van de Velde hired her.

Need to keep in mind the following:

CJL came from Wisconsin.
JP was at Wisconsin when ISU hired CJL.
BVDV was a long-time lame duck at ISU and JP was waiting for an ISU offer once Alvarez retired and moved to full-time AD.
JP and Geoffrey had a prior relationship at Maryland.

JP likely was quite involved with the CJL hire.

JP has kept her though..which I know of several jobs she's been offered/looked at for. She loves ISU, and Ames works perfect for her family. I think if Cook ever leaves Nebby she would jump. (And I don't think many would blame her)

This class is really exciting. Grace bring something that I don't think we've ever had here. SO PHYSICAL. I expect her to at least contribute from day 1.

As someone who doesn't know anything about volleyball, can you elaborate on this? How can a volleyball team be classified as "physical"?

Skidoosh, if you have a chance attend a game. VB at this level is a neat blend of finesse and power and strength. I certainly wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of some of those spikes. I have no idea how the liberos get some of those digs off the floor and playable. I went the first time just because ISU was rated. Have went back because it's really entertaining. Game times are really variable you need to win 3 of 5. against a bad team less than 1hr. 2 good teams playing could take a couple of hours plus a little bit. UNI and Texas both consistently have good teams and would be good games to see.

Well, Bruce it was, then. Grateful for that.

IMO, physical would be the spiking and hitting velocity, but just the size and presence at the net for blocking, too. When you're a middle blocker or hitter and joust for a ball at the same time, you're able to force it over the net. Is that correct?

Physical might not be the best descriptor. I would go with athletic and strong. I think of physical more in sports where you are body to body with your opponent.

So far. In the long haul I worry some about facilities matching where the team is nationally or where it could be with better fan support and better facilities. I think with the potential we have we should be “all in” in supporting an effort to be perennially Top 10 with better facilities and better attendance. Both Wisconsin and Nebraska have their old basketball arenas for sports like volleyball and I wish we did. Probably unrealistic but I am pretty jelly of the renovated Devaney Center.

But "physical" is the exact term college and national coaches use. It generally describes blocking - high, with great penetration into the opponents court. In other words - intimidating.

I was hoping this Dickson Jensen facility would be constructed to also be used for ISU VB games.
