Vikings Stadium Deal Possibly Dead

Too much political posturing going on. Either we know a Stadium is going to be built when the shovels hit the ground, or the team is leaving when the last member is on the plane. This "I just heard that..." and "Is it true that..." talk only sensationalizes the perspective and gets the pot a-stirrin'.

How does the most recent information make it more sensational?

You would think that if... wait, when the Vikes go to LA, that they will switch up the divisions.

Vikes would be out west and the St. Louis Rams would most likely end up in the "Norris" Division with the Bears, Packers and Lions.
Yeah I was thinking the Rams too.
I was kinda thinking maybe Chiefs earlier, but I think their rivalries are to strong to break.

IMO, it seems polarizing. Every time the bill is up for debate, there;s the "get it done!" attitude...but whenever any comment comes around that relates to "the deal won't pass" or "there may be a lack of support," no matter where from, everybody just assumes the team is leaving and there's no hope. I'm just tired of the back-and-forth, so I've decided i'm only believing a new stadium is coming to TC when the shovels are in the ground.

Hell, this stadium talk has been going on since the late 90s!

Prediction: This unfolds just like hockey.

Minnesota loses the Vikings to LA, then everybody flips **** about not having a pro football team, and they get one in the next round of expansion with a new stadium and all that jazz.

Minnesota sports fans are terrible, and this is coming from a Vikes fan. They'll ***** and moan about some sales tax until they lose team, then they'll come crawling back on their knees paying more money to get a new team here than it would have cost them to keep the old one.

I applaud the politicians for not caving to the owners and NFL. Why should the taxpayers have to fund a stadium that's not NEEDED. Sure it may NEED to be there to keep up with the other stadiums, but it's not a NEED. Not only would those taxpayers have to fund it, but so would us visitors to the TC. On top of that, imagine what you would pay to attend a game in that new stadium. An owner and NFL that get the proceeds, they should fund it. I don't see a lot of businesses going to the tax base and asking for them to build a store, or at least pay for half of it. Sure there are tax benefits, and loans. But loans are expected to be paid off.

I feel really bad for the fans of the Vikings, but this is a joke.

Yep.

I believe they try to avoid moving teams between conferences whenever they can. Especially when a team was originally an AFL member (Chiefs were the Dallas Texans). If it happened much greater chance that it would be the Rams.

I disagree, SoM. It does suck but if you want to have a team, you better be prepared to play the game. If you don't want to help pay for a stadium just kiss the team goodbye right now; someone else will.

We saw it with the Lakers / T-Wolves; we saw it with the Northstars / Wild. The tougher thing this time around is the NFL has no interest in expanding so you aren't going to get an expansion franchise. You will have to sweeten the pot even more to steal a team from some other market that hasn't learned how the game is played.

I'm not saying it is right, I'm just saying that is the way it is.

This. What's truly embarrasing for the Vikings is that their ownership + the NFL can't/won't pony up at least 1/2 the money. The NFL takes in $10 billion/year. If small markets really meant anything to the NFL, they could fund this stadium in a heartbeat.

The only time private industry ever get's that kind/level of financial support from the government is in stadium deals.

Senate Finance Cmte approves #vikings stadium bill-- w/ pulltabs and Racino-- on 9-5 vote.

Sen Rosen: Racino will come off the #vikings stadium bill as soon as possible. Headed for Tax Cmte tomorrow.

Tweets from Sen. Kessler....hope I cited those right.

So they are staying in Minnesota?

I believe the general agreement is that this next tax senate thing is going to be a more difficult step to get through with approval.

I believe it will pass the Tax Committee, as long as Racino is removed. Not only does it have little support from from the Indian Gaming groups, but Senator Sean Nienow (the man who placed Racino in the Stadium bill in the first place) voted against it. The Tax Committee has the power to remove Racino if it sees fit and will likely do so.

Everything is coming together, but again, until shovels are in the ground, I'll sit and wait.

False, they are.

I somewhat think that the ownerships sees the LA market and is leveraging it because they don't care. They'll make more in LA... A new stadium will earn them more with less costs.... They have the better leveraging position.
