Vikings Stadium Deal Possibly Dead

Apologies, the Vikings are paying a little under 50% of the initial costs (976 million or whatever it is). I got mixed up when I was reading that they will cover all future costs (operating expenses, capital improvements). However, it is the third largest private contribution in league history.

Minnesota Vikings | Facts

Ok. Maybe I don't know my a** from a hole in the ground and should stop talking about things to which I don't fully understand......

That's good info. Thanks for the summary.

This. What's truly embarrasing for the Vikings is that their ownership + the NFL can't/won't pony up at least 1/2 the money. The NFL takes in $10 billion/year. If small markets really meant anything to the NFL, they could fund this stadium in a heartbeat.

The only time private industry ever get's that kind/level of financial support from the government is in stadium deals.

that's not embarrassing. It's just good business. Why contribute more than they have to? LA is licking their chops for a team. The Wilfs are in an advantageous position. It's as simple as that.

If the Vikings do move will they switch up the divisions?
Easiest thing to do would be to move the St. Louis Rams to the NFC North from the NFC West, and move the L.A. Vikings to the NFC West from the NFC North.

This. If you can switch from being a "Vikings fan" to a Packers fan, you're not a true Vikings fan. At all.

Our priest was a big Vikes fan, and after Mass one day he says he is looking for suggestions for a new team to root for because the Vikes had "made some personnel moves that they didn't consult him about" - ie picking up Favre. Big laughs. Then he goes on to say it won't be the Packers or Bears. Maybe they Chiefs he said, they were so terrible they had no where to go but up! Bigger laughs.

Are the Lions leaving Detroit?

Guess you weren't paying attention last year - the Lions finished second in the division and made the playoffs last year, while the Vikings finished in the basement and were the third worst overall team. And by appearances that trend ain't changing anytime soon.

As far as the Rams in the "Norris" - well, they were originally the Cleveland Rams, so perhaps a long due homecoming?

If the Vikings move to L.A., give it a decade or so before we see the Minnesota Jaguars franchise. Sorry Jacksonville.

They can't get a stadium built with a team in Minnesota. No way they get one built on the prospects of a team moving there.

Edit: Read your post wrong the first time through. Thought it said "years" not "decades."
I could see them getting another team in 10-20 years.

I still think they would in about 5 years when they start to miss the Vikings.

Don't see how they can't get a stadium built though. Would be a huge revenue source. Vikings. NCAA first 2 rounds, Regional Finals, Final Fours. High School Football championship.

Stadiums never pay for themselves... but the community pride that comes out of sports teams is what the true value of them is. Sometimes people only see dollar signs.
