***Video Board Renderings Released***

the recent renovations to the stadium have made jack trice a gorgeous stadium. i trust the designers of the board.
I am completely stoked by the project. Absolutely can not wait to see it live! Dollars well spent inside JTS.
Most likely water. JTS was built in a swamp. The water will probably be seeping in almost as fast as they can pump it out.
looks fantastic to me - can't believe people complain so much about things.
First off, this is awesome and I think it is going to be a lot more massive than people think or can tell from that picture.
Second, I think the people asking if they considered how well it would stand up to wind are hilarious. Like they built a $5 million videoboard in JT and didn't consider the wind.
Third, people complaining about the space between The Jake and the board, the space likely exists to let wind cut under it, and it is probably not that big of a gap in real life.

Exactly. JP is putting in a new scoreboard / video board that includes a state of the art custom made sound system and dropping 5 million dollars to do it. Even if you don't like the design how is it possible that anyone can complain about it?
Is it a million times better then what we currently have? Check
Is the sound system going to be a billion times better then the blown speakers we have currently? Check
Is it an impressive structure that will add to the enjoyment of the game as well as being an imposing structure that helps make JTS look like the home of a first class D-1 football program? Check
Before people continue complaining they must realize that JP and other ISU officials listened to the calls of the fans for something better then what we had and they are delivering. End of story.
Wife gave the ok to get a new flat screen TV. I think I'll wait and see how this works out at JTS. If I like it I might get one for the homestead.

However, the actual renderings arent the biggest part of what i was really interested in, it was the specs and overall general design of the board. The specs are sweet, and the board will look massive up there.

I think the camera angle makes it look like there is more space between the scoreboard and the Jacobsen Building than there really is.
I like the way the scoreboard's horizontal support beams run parallel to the Jake's roof.
I haven't read through all 12 pages, so I'm sorry if this has already been discussed.
My question is how will this work if they ever plan on filling in the stadium all around with seats? Right now they've got the hillside seats, but I have heard for the past couple years that plans were to eventually build seats all the way around. With the drawings shown in that, it appears that 1) either those huge metal poles will be directly where the seats are to go or 2) they will be right in the way of a bunch of unlucky fans who can't see squat.

Plans are to bowl in the South endzone (opposite of where this scoreboard will be). There are no plans to bowl in the entire stadium.
I dont think the north hillsides were ever included in the plans for seats. Its all been about the south end for changing those over from grass to permanent seats.
What i'd bet will eventually happen then is we'll eliminate 'hillside seating' as a ticket option (likely there will be some seating options in the endzones for comparable prices anyways), but leave the areas in the north open for those who want to take their normal tickets and sit there. For any games where we sell out permanent seats, then we open up SRO tickets for those hills.
To address a few criticisms in this thread:
No brick for me. The materiality of the complex is concrete (exposed) and steel.
A few insightful poster have pointed out the structural issues regarding wind and snow loads if it were attached/ closer to the Jake. Absolutely correct. Also, the board is set back from the south facade of the Jake - assumed so that people on the northern endzone seats can view the board. This also means to see it looking from a downward position, it needs to be well above the roof - overhangs from the Jake would block view of the bottom.
As an architect/ designer, I'm not sure I would want to touch this with a ten foot pole. The jacobsen has an iconic roof line, and to "attach" it to the building in any way would be a NIGHTMARE aesthetically. Look at it - It dwarfs the size of the Jake. The best thing to do - which is exactly what I would have done - is to give it plenty of clearance, and "reverence" by doing so.
I'm sure that wind loads have already been considered, and the members have been sized - at least close to what they will need to be.
Photoshopping could be better, but you get the idea right?
Beyond nit-picking the aesthetics, I'm guessing this will heighten the gameday experience so much (from visual and audio perspective) and you'll forget about all these others things.
