Worked all day to start getting our travel trailer “Alf” ready. We will be heading down from the twin cities on Friday. Wife got an email saying they will not que RV’s in the grass lots and Ames does not allow parking on the road below VetMed, so not sure where to wait until they open the lots. Anyone know where everyone should line up? If the plan is everyone just showing up from all directions at 6PM, that will be a traffic mess. Either way looking forward to getting settled in, firing up the TV for some Friday night football and cracking a few cold ones once we get set up.

In the past (pre-COVID anyway) the parking lot at the Hansen Ag Student Learning Center on Mortensen was available for a fee to those arriving in Ames early. No idea if that’s now the case.

We are new to the camping world. Actually just got a travel trailer this week. It isn't big(25ft) as we figured it would be easier to maneuver. Wondering how Vet Med lot works. Do we back into the parking stalls and unhinch? Do you have to park the truck somewhere else. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Vetmed lot! It is a great spot to spend a football weekend. VetMed parking lot has the parking lanes separated by grass medians. All rv’s park across the parking spots (opposite of typical cal parking) with almost all doors pointed out away from the grass median, so your neighbor’s door across the lane will be pointed towards your rv ( something to keep in mind when you pull the lane which way your rv door opens. We typically unhitch our truck and park in front of our travel trailer with the normal parking lines to help save space for other rv’s. Hope that makes sense.

Anyone got a feeling for what the impact will be on the new RV village to the number of RV's staying at VetMed? I have to assume the price jump might also be something that might keep some of the set up and come back on Saturday folks away.

I thought I’d jump into this. I’ve been gifted pretty good seats to the Kansas State game and I was thinking of doing the rv thing as well. Thing is we aren’t much of tailgaters and would probably do well staying out of the immediate stadium area. Is there a campground fairly close that we could stay at? Would the veterinary medicine lot have room.

There is usually plenty of room at the Vet med. 100..00 for the weekend. Not a lot of hard core partiers, if any. I love it there. No electric hookups, so you might want a small genset

Any other fellow Cyclone fans planning on camping Friday night in the Vet Med RV Lot? If so, let's have a beer together! Can't wait for Saturday to get here!
I'll be there Friday. White fleetwood Expedition class A motorhome. But a beer just won't be enough... no way

VetMed will have room especially later in the season. We really like it. Nice balance of far enough away from the hard core tailgating but close enough to feel apart of it. Cost bumped up to $100 this year and payment online. our second year going in our travel trailer “Alf”. We will have a couple tv’s to catch the other games during the weekend as well. Our addition to the rv this year is a solo stove for the later cooler games.

You mean $40.00. There was an extra . So I was making sure not 400. I was afraid I’d be kept up until 3 am by drunken college kids.

We have solar panels with lithium ion batterit’s. Should be good. We boondock quite a bit. if you allow visiting Iowa fans I’d buy a beer for anyone in here.

100 isn’t bad. I paid 150 at Illinois for a spot parked on the street one night.

I am also looking for someone with a acreage or farm near Ames. Would like to park my motorhome there for the football season, (it's over 400 miles round trip for me) willing to pay a rental fee, just want keep fuel costs to a minimum.

Same deal here. Coming down from the twin cities. Drive back up on a windy Sunday can be brutal. Have a close storage spot would be nice to save on the gas and distance of dragging the rv back and forth. One option might be rv dealers between where you live and Ames.

Agree on the value, but was just shocked it was over double the price, but still worth it to enjoy a football weekend back in Ames. Hear they were not going to que rv’s in the grass lots before the 6pm open. Seems like that should be part of the rate increase as well. I guess we will see when we get there. Planning on getting into Ames around 4:30 - 5 on Friday. Hopefully easy pull in parking and set up.
