As a young parent, I'm learning that this is a good time of year to take inventory of your kids' "stuff" and try to scale back. I'd like to find a charity or a similar group that accepts used toy donations. Any ideas?

I think this is a good opportunity to teach my 3-year-old a lesson about sharing our things and giving to those who may not be as fortunate. It will also help me scale back on some of the toy clutter that has come courtesy of the grandparents. :twitcy:

It's up in Ames but I've been involved with the Appalachia Committee for many years and having gone down to where they send them in Kentucky I know toys are much appreciated. We actually just did take a whole toy load down before Christmas but we'll always take more. You can read more at untitled or send me a PM.

There are a couple I found, both are resale shops to benefit different charities:

Not New Shop :: Ways to Give :: Iowa Health - Des Moines | Iowa Lutheran has a thrift store with quality used clothing for men women and children, among other things

The Beacon of Life | Donate

It is too late this year, but in Ames a church hosts a "Pass Along Party" for families in need at Christmas time. They collect gently used toys and household goods and set up a store. Then there is a day where families can come "shop" for free for their kids. We have donated to this the past couple of years.
