Charlie Strong was the head coach that led a pre-ACC Louisville to a Sugar Bowl win, and Texas hired him away the year after that. The problem is Strong was never going to be given what he needed nor allowed to change what he needed in order to win at Texas.
Really?? He was showing up drunk and sometimes not even showing up.I also don’t think USC ever gave him a fair chance to get things going. A year and a half? Really?
You’re including different stints in the same position at the same location. If you’re looking at it like that, Tom Manning has had 4 different jobs in 5 years.Overall agree. But six different places in seven years? We are also including two positions as head coach. Show me how common that is for ISU coaches. I’ll wait.

Just one of the many, many things the Longhorns do that make no sense to me. I thought Herman had things going the right direction.I hope it's Sark, but I don't know why you do that if you're Texas. Herman didn't do that badly at Texas, so you'd need it to be someone that was a definite upgrade. I don't know that Sarkisian is that
I’ve never said it was a good choice, especially because the issue with his last stint at USC was due to non-coaching ability issues and personal ones. I’m just saying it’s not uncommon for assistants to move around a lot. You’re also only counting his last year at Washington and ignoring that he was there for 5 or 6 years. If you take it from the start of his time there he’s had 5 jobs in 11 years.Yet not any head coaching positions when Sark has two. You think it's not strange to have a guy, with two head coaching jobs, and six different locations in seven years with a history of scandal to be named Texas' head coach. I do.
Move on.

*4 in six, 3 if you don’t count Alabama OC twice.5 jobs in six years including at USC and his personal scandal. You're right. Much better.
Strong got lucky with Bridgewater and that got him the Texas job. He was in over his head from day 1.
Hiring assistants to be their HC has worked for OU the past couple of times...They (UT) keep doing the same things (hire assistants from successful programs) and expecting different results. With their resources, you would think they can open up the checkbook and write a heavy eight figure check to a major name. Apparently this is not the case, which further explains how screwed up their culture really is.

I actually think Sark is a good hire and a step up from Herman. If he brings in an elite DC I can see Texas being back to a 10 win team in a couple years. Hopefully I'm wrong and they continue to be 5 star talent and 2 star culture.
