Strong got lucky with Bridgewater and that got him the Texas job. He was in over his head from day 1.
Really?? He was showing up drunk and sometimes not even showing up.
You’re including different stints in the same position at the same location. If you’re looking at it like that, Tom Manning has had 4 different jobs in 5 years.
Yet not any head coaching positions when Sark has two. You think it's not strange to have a guy, with two head coaching jobs, and six different locations in seven years with a history of scandal to be named Texas' head coach. I do.
Move on.
Just one of the many, many things the Longhorns do that make no sense to me. I thought Herman had things going the right direction.
I’ve never said it was a good choice, especially because the issue with his last stint at USC was due to non-coaching ability issues and personal ones. I’m just saying it’s not uncommon for assistants to move around a lot. You’re also only counting his last year at Washington and ignoring that he was there for 5 or 6 years. If you take it from the start of his time there he’s had 5 jobs in 11 years.
5 jobs in six years including at USC and his personal scandal. You're right. Much better.

I can't see how this is a good hire for Texas. Doesn't seem like a major upgrade and absolutely not a flashy hire.
I actually think Sark is a good hire and a step up from Herman. If he brings in an elite DC I can see Texas being back to a 10 win team in a couple years. Hopefully I'm wrong and they continue to be 5 star talent and 2 star culture.
Strong thought he was going into Austin to change the culture. I think he could have done it, but it would have taken the kind of time and support from admins and boosters that he was never going to get.
It's not possible for Texas to go full Nebraska, because the recruits will always come. But they run the risk of becoming a place where good established coaches won't consider because of extraneous issues.
Texas being good is in the long term financial best interest of the Big 12. But I have enjoyed watching the slow motion ten year train wreck also. I'm so conflicted!
The entire point of my post was job hopping. I don't care if someone is at a job every other year in the same position it's not consecutive. He's moving on after one year. And I even said in my first post on this that it is way more common in coaching than normal organizations. Seriously...move on.
I hope he has the drinking under control. Easier to stay sober when you are the OC and not the head guy on an elite team. A little harder to stay sober when everyone is hating on you at Texas.
Can this guy stay sober as the head coach? That's the concern I'd have. In theory, nothing wrong with hiring assistant coaches (although still not sure this is a step up), but he had a drinking problem when he was last a head coach. Texas would make a teetotaler drink.
