With the team hamstrung by an injured Buckley and a foul plagued Moody other players stepped up to guide the ladies to victory. Have to keep this one short as I just got home and have another place to go shortly.
The two brightest spots in this one had to be a solid post game from Fernstrom and the play of Bell spelling a foul plagued Moody. Bell had, perhaps, the best assist of the day when she fed Bre before half for a bucket and the largest lead of the game at that point. She's quick and she's showing great promise as our future point guard. Bre ended up with a double double, the likes of which I'd like to see all the time. Her shooting percentage was high and she hit both attempts from deep. Of course the post play of her opponents is about to improve massively as Conf play begins.
It it was nice to see Brynn do some scoring although the accuracy wasn't quite as good as I'd like to see, but anytime the sharp shooter hits for 23 I'll take it. Also some kudos to Moody who dished a bunch of assists despite spending ample time on the bench. The assist to bucket ratio was much better with 16 on 24 baskets.
The he downside to this one was obviously the absence of Buckley, but shockingly the zero points for Kidd. Her shooting was just off. Fortunately Em stepped off the bench and did what she always seems to do...produce. Her defense is sticky and the 8 points were needed and timely.
Finally, the best stat of the day...free throw shooting. 20 of 24 is music to my ears. Brynn was pure from the line as she should be. That's how you win games.
There is a small break for the ladies to go home before the Cyclone Challenge and then Conf play. The good is that Buckley is healing. The questions still remain about offensive non scoring stretches, suspect defense, and what lineup will produce. But, I guess this is what you get from a very young team. The Conf schedule scares the crap out of me, but it's exciting to wait and see how we adjust to the change in competition.
Everyone have a Merry Christmas. Be safe and hold your loved ones close.
