With the team hamstrung by an injured Buckley and a foul plagued Moody other players stepped up to guide the ladies to victory. Have to keep this one short as I just got home and have another place to go shortly.

The two brightest spots in this one had to be a solid post game from Fernstrom and the play of Bell spelling a foul plagued Moody. Bell had, perhaps, the best assist of the day when she fed Bre before half for a bucket and the largest lead of the game at that point. She's quick and she's showing great promise as our future point guard. Bre ended up with a double double, the likes of which I'd like to see all the time. Her shooting percentage was high and she hit both attempts from deep. Of course the post play of her opponents is about to improve massively as Conf play begins.

It it was nice to see Brynn do some scoring although the accuracy wasn't quite as good as I'd like to see, but anytime the sharp shooter hits for 23 I'll take it. Also some kudos to Moody who dished a bunch of assists despite spending ample time on the bench. The assist to bucket ratio was much better with 16 on 24 baskets.

The he downside to this one was obviously the absence of Buckley, but shockingly the zero points for Kidd. Her shooting was just off. Fortunately Em stepped off the bench and did what she always seems to do...produce. Her defense is sticky and the 8 points were needed and timely.

Finally, the best stat of the day...free throw shooting. 20 of 24 is music to my ears. Brynn was pure from the line as she should be. That's how you win games.

There is a small break for the ladies to go home before the Cyclone Challenge and then Conf play. The good is that Buckley is healing. The questions still remain about offensive non scoring stretches, suspect defense, and what lineup will produce. But, I guess this is what you get from a very young team. The Conf schedule scares the crap out of me, but it's exciting to wait and see how we adjust to the change in competition.

Everyone have a Merry Christmas. Be safe and hold your loved ones close.

Bre was outstanding. We were at the game, and she was dominant inside, and was able to really work herself open at will. I'm sure some of that has to do with the opponent, but easily the best she's played.

Sure hope Jadda isn't out long - will be difficult to start conference play with her still injured.

I think it is a tad remiss to not mention Fallon Ellis who stepped up with some decent rebounding and defense and chipped in 11 points. Being a good role player in my estimation..

Absolutely! That is exactly what she needs to do and today was the perfect example of what she is capable of.

Nice game for the Sisters. Brynn really stepped up as a scorer and a leader. We are going to need much more of that during the conference season. It was great to see her start to drive the ball and also fight for those rebounds. Bre showed a lot of energy especially with the 11 rebounds and the two blocks. We always knew she could score but that pass from Bell was a thing of beauty. I am looking forward to see much more of that over the next four years. Speaking of Bell, playing 15 minutes with no turnovers shows what is in our future. Since Johnson and Moody both were mired in foul troubles the bench had to step up and Durr and Ellis did big time. Durr's defense is getting much better game by game. The three freshman are showing that the Sister's have good things coming in their future. Ellis is the spare part that every team needs to be successful. Since she has been in Ames she has tried to do everything that the staff has asked of her. I do like it when BF has Bre and Ellis in the game at the same time as it gives up plenty of muscle under the basket. This was a good game to end the pre holiday season. Side Note: I watched the Oklahoma vs Arkansas game after ours, and I think this is the year that we take two from Barbie's team. They lack size and are not that deep this year but still are very fast and can shoot the three. We will match up well with them and have a much stronger bench. It was good to see Madi Manning from Ankeny back on the court after several years of season ending injuries.
