Could be something to keep an eye on when the Big 12 goes back to the negotiating table around 2029, assuming Yormark will still want to split off the hoops contract.

In addition to the CFP, they've recently announced deals with the Big East and Mountain West:

The new agreement, which will span from 2025-26 through 2030-31, encompasses coverage on FOX Sports (FOX, FS1, FS2), NBC Sports (NBC, Peacock) and TNT Sports (TNT, TBS, truTV and Max). The agreement will provide major national broadcast, cable and direct-to-consumer streaming coverage of BIG EAST men’s and women’s basketball games and Olympic sport championship contests. The BIG EAST’s current agreement with FOX Sports is scheduled to expire after the 2024-25 academic year.

TNT Sports will feature more than 65 regular season BIG EAST basketball games airing on TNT – as its primary network – along with TBS, truTV and Max, beginning with the 2025-26 season.

TNT Sports and the Mountain West Conference have reached a multi-year agreement for a full slate of live college football games to air exclusively on truTV and Max beginning this season. truTV and Max will present 14 Mountain West college football games during the inaugural season, with coverage kicking off with San José State hosting Sacramento State on Thursday, Aug. 29, at 7 p.m. PT.

Wish it said the $$ amount - did I miss it?

That would be a great indication of how much the "separate bball from football" strategy might pay off.

Not sure if these are the numbers, but nice numbers

Thanks for finding this, I have been looking all over for this estimated number.

If basketball for the Big 12 is around 20% of the media deal, basketball is bringing in less than $7 million a year per team.

The big east is going to average $8 million a year per team with much lower ratings than the Big 12. So getting a $15-$20 million a year BB only contract for Big 12 is possible.

Disagree. Geography is going to hurt big time. I think the Big East is a template for what you can get by separating basketball, not a baseline plus we don't know what damage it does to the football payout to pull all that inventory away from it.

Feel like this deal is more about live content for Max streaming platform than TBS linear brand.

NBC also seems to keep adding live sports to its Peacock platform.

Counting on within a decade 80% of live sports originate on a subscription platform.

Turner lost their NBA contract, they had to pick up something to fill the slots left over from no getting the NBA again.

TBS televised "The Run". I would love for them to pick up Big 12 Football and Basketball again!

FS1's coverage of Big East basketball has been great. If it's not an ISU or B12 type of game I usually watch Big East. It's a really solid league.
