After an incredibly stressful week at work, we decided to go out and see a movie on Friday night. We decided to take a chance and see Tropic Thunder, not knowing if this would finally be a Ben Stiller movie that would impress, or just another one to flounder.
This movie was incredibly funny and the cast was really in their element. Robert Downey Jr stole the scene every time he was shown and had by far his best performance I think I've ever seen from him. Stiller was much better than usual and I think some of his strengths really shined in this movie. Jack Black was good, although he played a very crude individual - perfectly. Having him describe a blow-job in great detail was stomach-turning disgusting, but nobody else would have pulled it off in such fashion.
Next to Downey for incredible performances, Tom Cruise put forth an amazingly funny and out-of-character performance. I never thought I would actually see Tom Cruise in another role where I could put aside my disdain for his personal life issues, but this was certainly a movie where you could forget how much you may dislike him off screen.
Anyways, a great comedy, just make sure you can handle some incredibly disgusting visuals and a lot of very non-politically-correct remarks as they start the second the "real" previews are over.
