I'm wanting to put a trolling motor on a paddle boat. We have a 17 acre pond and when it is windy it is difficult to get it back to the dock.

Any advice/suggestions

Methinks that while there's a lot of trolling going on around here, it may be that not many of us are experts at trolling motors, per say.

Use 2 metal "L"brackets and a chunk of green treated 2x8. Don't get a trolling motor with less than 50 lbs of thrust. Mount a battery box centered behind the rear seat. They make a deep cycle battery thats half the size of a normal one, I'd get one of those for this project, for weight and space saving.

Here some actual advice instead of those hammerheads above me - Buy a deep cell battery not just a car battery - I have an optima on my boat after using multiple junk bomgaars brand deep cycles, the optimas are really worth the hype. I have a 40 lb thrust on my aluminum john boat that fits in the back of the truck, its plenty and gets me around just fine. That said I wish a 55-60 lb thrust - no one ever said "Gee I wish this trolling motor had less power"
