Sounds like the most likely scenario is now that 5 schools will remain in the Big 12. Just 1 team short of the ability to vote down dissolution.

What can we do with that?

-Call up Oklahoma State and say hey guys, you join the rest of the Big 8 (less NE and CU) and stick around here is what we have to offer:

-All our TV contract Revenue will only be split between 1/2 the teams it has been for the next couple years.

-Starting 2012 we will have an auto birth for the BCS and no team left is a consistent powerhouse. You can go to a BCS bowl with the least resistance in the nation.

-We will recieve the buyout money from the 6 schools leaving.


When our TV contracts are looking to be renegotiated and our BCS AQ status is up for review in the future, then look to add some schools that have seen the success we have. It remains a Very Good basketball conference. KU is a powerhouse. KSU seems to have something figured out. Mizzou is a very tough arena to play in and gets it done now and then. If Fred gets it turned around it will be a hell of a place for basketball.

In 5 years if we haven't done anything for the future, we have problems then. As of now we have significant bartering power. Add schools like TCU, Utah, BYU at that point and we have a new Big 12 south.

Here's the problem...Dan Beebe would need to be in charge of this initiative. You can't even fire him and try to have someone else right the ship, because having no one at the helm at this juncture would be even worse, hard as that is to conceive.

not necessarily. All the votes necessary for this to happen have already been orchestrated for it to happen. We just need someone like JP or the Kansas or Mizzou folks to talk to the OSU higher ups to sway them. That gives us the 6 votes we need. The numbers and arguments are pretty easy to make. OSU would arguably be the strongest football school left.

Convince them to play their hand close to the vest and unite with the remaining members and they stand to gain significantly. As soon as the 5 other members bolt for the Pac 10 we can vote to fire Beebe, and replace him with someone competent. From that point on all you have to do is collect paychecks and then expand in the future. You still have the OKC (45), STL (#21), KC (31), Ames/DSM (72), and Waco (89) markets. Plus whatever else Baylor can keep in the fold. Add another school like TCU if you need to up the Texas interest enough to make it viable to get some other TX cities. Baylor or TCU alone may not do it, but the two combined might.

Add Utah or BYU and you have Salt Lake (31), Add Air Force and you have Denver (16).

This is still viable. It won't produce on the new Pac 10 scale, but it has some large advantages.
