Maybe we need to send some of that aTm $28M exit fee money to V-bilt and Alabama to make sure their votes do not switch for Mizzou. After all, it is the SEC and they know how to make deals.

Seems weird to potentially have a division of

-Boise
-Air Force
-SMU
-Houston
-S. Florida
-Central Florida

Who would've ever dreamed that 5 years ago a conference division stretching from Idaho to Florida was possible?

I'd like to see the geographic footprint of that conference. The increased travel is going to be insane.

If the Big12 truly wants both Louisville and West Virginia, regardless of what Mizzou does, today is the day to get them. Events in the Big East have come to a head now and it looks like it's time to check your parachutes and jump, or step away from the cliff.

I bet if something doesn't happen with these schools in the next 48 hours little else will happen for some time.

Maybe, but not necessariliy. Rumor is that West Virginia and Louisville could end up voting to go along with increased exit fees and still leave for the Big 12. Part of the negotiation for the increased exit fees is a decrease in the 27 month window to leave the Big East. If it ends up going through, the exit fees would only be in the $15 million range instead of the $5 million range. However, even if it is around $15 million, we've all seen that these things end up getting negotiated down. If Louisville and WV stand to make $10 million/yr more in the Big 12, and they can get there sooner by agreeing to go along with the steeper exit fees, then it's at least possible they could end up voting for it in the end and still leaving very soon.

I find it hard to believe that the AFA folks will cave and agree to join the geographic cluster that the BE has become. And I also find it hard to believe the BE Presidents will cave on Boise just to help their AQ status. That is the only reason Boise is being considered and there is little guarantee Boise will continue their success.

But if you're the Big East, you almost have to roll the dice and hope for the best with Boise. Without them, they're in a world of hurt, especially if WV leaves. If nothing else, they bring the past few years credits to the BCS formula when it comes to time for reevaluation of BCS status.

Besides, if the Big East takes Boise, Houston, SMU, and Central Florida, they've completely undercut any chance of the C-USA/Mtn West merger gaining BCS status. If they can eliminate any competition for another BCS slot and gain political leverage in the process, it can only help them to keep BCS status, which is really job #1 for them in this whole process.

Understood but it's sad that the current system forces a conference to invite schools that are 2 time zones away and have absolutely nothing in common with the existing schools in the conference. And it's even more sad that a supposedly principled service academy like AFA will agree to something like this.

The BCS bowl games that the BE has recently played in have been ratings and attendence disasters. I wouldn't blame ESPN and other conferences changing the rules now to prevent the nonsense going on now with the BE, AFA and Boise.

Yeah, if Boise to the Big East does happen in the end, it'll be a good commentary on the state of college athletics today. Who would've ever thought 5-10 years ago that Boise State would be in the Big East??? Think not only about geography, but the cultural differences too like you said!! The current system is pretty sad where the rich get richer (SEC, B10), and the rest are left to fend for themselves with absolutely no consideration for the good of the game. I looked up how are it is between Boise and South Florida: its 2600+ miles. And they could be in the same division.

Found this popped up recently too. Sounds like the Big East is set to issue an invite to Boise. Now its up to them whether they'll accept.

On another note, if the increased exit fee is only 5 million, sounds like that won't stop West Virginia and Louisville from bolting if that's what they choose.

Boise, 3 more could get Big East invite next week - CBSSports.com

Once divided on whether to invite Boise State, the Big East is now united on extending an invitation to the Broncos, along with Air Force, Navy and UCF, college football industry sources told CBSSports.com.

Boise State, Air Force and UCF have indicated they are receptive to joining the Big East. Navy is prepared to also commit once a higher exit fee has been established, sources said. The official invitations to UCF, Boise State, Air Force and Navy could be extended as early as next week.

On Sunday the Big East's presidents and chancellors are expected to vote and approve an increased exit fee of at least $10 million for football members.

Houston, SMU and Temple are being considered for the final two spots. However, one source said Houston and SMU are expected to get the final two spots because of Villanova’s concerns about adding Temple into the league.

Boise State, Air Force and Navy would join as football-only members. UCF, Houston and SMU would join as full members.

"BYUtv, which is available in more than 60 million homes nationwide"

That sounds like a lot! According to Wiki the 2010 estimate is 114,825,428 households in the U.S. So, they're claiming a customer in just over half the households in America. I'm incredulous, but, if true, they don't need a conference.

"Available" is different than actually being subscribed. Playboy channel is available as well. Just saying.

Sounds like some form of MWC and CUSA merger is in the works. League champs to play? Hoping to get Big East AQ status? Or do they see that as a way to convince Boise,
AF, and others to stay?

Missouri may be the last team to decide their future. Everyone else is marching.

(sigh)

Big 12 appears to be standing by, idly.

THANK YOU MISSOURI!

We should just invite Louisville and BYU asap. This is so stupid waiting around on a hooker of an athletic program.

If Missouri whores themselves after a year and there's no 12th team that makes sense, 11 teams is not the end of the world. The Big Ten did fine with 11 teams for about two decades.

If Mizzou stays, nice neat conference of 12 again.

I highly doubt if Mizzou leaves and we're at 11 and we desperately want 12, that there will be NOBODY available.

I get it on Mediacom digital cable in Cedar Rapids. And I don't have any of the crazy tiers, just expanded basic and the tier with all the sports channels and like BBC America.

BSU only recently joined the MWC because they saw it as the best way to improve their chances of earning BCS bids. If a CUSA/Mountain West merger has a means of making that chance an AQ bid, what reason would they have to go to the Big East, particularly if it is an open question whether or not the new Big East will be AQ?

Sounds like the CUSA/MWC conference will likely operate like two leagues, except in football which will hold a championship game, hopefully for the AQ bid. If true, there would be little change for most teams most of the time.
